Yeah, Trump's tariffs pretty much throw the whole global economy into chaos. It's not surprising the corporations aren't going to immediately accept losses in the most lucrative consumer market on the planet.

Maybe I'm wrong but

Wasn't the PS5 Digital $400 at launch? I saw one at gamestop yesterday and it was $450, new.

In the US yeah. Digital was $100 less than the disc version. Digital was $399.99 and disc was $499.99 The funny thing is Gamestop actually has Astro Bot bundles where the digital console is $399.99 and the disc version is $450 and that comes WITH Astro Bot so you would be foolish to pay their $450 for the digital console that doesn't come with Astro Bot.

Funny thing is the digital PS5 price increase is enormous while the "+disc drive" version is only $30AUD more than what I paid for my base OG PS5 a few years back.

Seems that's where the major markup is, and I gotta say it's pretty dumb because it's actually reducing the value of the digital version significantly. It was a okayish price at $600AUD vs the 750AUD price of the full edition, but now the difference has shrunk to waiting an extra week paycheck for a device that offers infinitely more value.

Given the gameplan is to phase out physical by essentially undercutting it so much people are forced to go digital-only I can't see this being a smart move.

Because big corporations, being poverty-stricken and barely scraping a living that they are, must find ways to keep the green line going up in ever increasing amounts every financial quarter no matter the cost and lack of sustainability.

Sony: Since Trumps tariffs will raise the PS5 price with 30% in USA, we are forced to raise the European price with 25% because that is how economy works.

Seems they're doing it to offset the US's tariffs because that's their biggest market, as well as already pretty much having a monopoly in those other regions. It's really just another case of PS hyperfocusing on chasing the American market.

Almost certainly. And also expect other companies to start doing it. And also also, don't expect the prices to go back down once the tariffs are gone because you have to understand, reasons.

of course they won't you don't put tariffs and then expect things to go down once you take them off immediately not when retailers already payed those fees and expect them to sell them at the priced tariffs fees
