I just rewatched the first season these last 3 days. I expect that this episode will be a little slower. Mainly to establish where we're going from here. Either way I'm super excited that it's back...and then next week we've got Andor coming back. We're going to have a great little run of quality TV.

April is insanely stacked with this, Andor, and the remaining episode of Daredevil: Born Again. My wife also has even more TV to look forward to with Doctor Who and The Handmaid's Tale returning.

I never finished the second game but sounds like theyre covering events prior to the sequel in this season. So before that thing. And that makes sense given that half the sequel is flashbacks

Supposedly game 2 will be covered across 2 seasons. So everything won't be resolved this season. No word on if they plan to do a 4th season. Maybe they might surprise announce Last of Us 3 and then season 4 of the show

first one has been rumored to be delayed until later in the season, but I feel like that was always going to happen. They aren't gonna kill off the biggest draw right at the beginning.

Tommy has a son now? The hell? So he's going to look like a total piece of shit for leaving Maria and Benji to hunt Abby.

Also Joel killed Eugene? The same Eugene whose weed Ellie and Dina smoke later on?

yea, in season one, iirc, they said something about Maria being pregnant.

anyway, I think the first episode is pretty decent so far, but idk how I feel about it when it's trying to be 1:1 with the game.

Dina was so flamboyant in game. I see no real difference.

I kinda like how they put some of those time skips in order rather than jumble them like in game. Excited for the season.

Just finished...

Game/TV show spoilers

I see they're messing with the tineline here. The dance scene isn't a flashback and the guitar scene isn't a flashback. I'm curious to see how it plays out this scene because the game was full of flashbacks.

That was a decent first episode, IMO! I'm mostly interested in seeing what they're doing differently from the game so that's why it kept a lot of my interest.

I hope the show allows some of the other factions the game introduced to be fleshed out. Because for a game series that is supposed to show how every person has a story and aren't necessarily evil, there were certainly a couple of factions that existed solely to be enemies to kill.

Delaying him dying is one thing but changing the entire thing seems unlikely. But I admit that would be a pretty shocking move.

Now I kinda want to see how that plays out, after mentioning it. Like have Joel somehow survived getting beaten to pulp by Abby with a golf club, and she also kills Ellie in front of him when Ellie breaks free from being held down by a guy and tries to save Joel. Abby and her crew leaves assuming they'd killef Joel. Not having time to check for a pulse as the hear zombies nearby break into the house they're in and they leave. Then from there on Joel pretty much takes on Ellie's revenge story from the game, with various other deviations.

Okay, liking this so far, and the tweaks.

I am hoping that they have abby be a refugee - a chekhov's gun sort of deal where she infiltrated the joint, and even befriends ellie, so things will hit harder when she kills joel, and he won't look that dumb. I always wanted that if i could re write the story.

Wonder if they setting the balcony scene up as her coming back to have the talk with him in a last flash back? Looks like they want a narrative easier to follow than the game.

Having joel going to therapy because of teenage angst is a nice touch...Even with him knowing it's his fault. Also, being close to Dina.

The actor playing Ellie is gonna have to bring it. She has been serviceable, but this performance will be make or break for me.

as a fan of the game, after some further thought, I don't think the first episode grabbed me yet, and I'm not really feeling the changes.

I preferred how the game introduced Abby since it added some mystery around her character, but I understand why they had us know her background early on, so I don't fault them too much for this.

but as far as Joel killing Eugene, I didn't like that change - maybe it was so he'd be more open to telling the therapist about what he did to the Fireflies later on after she revealed how she felt, but unless if they do something meaningful with this, I think it was better for him just to tell Tommy like he did originally .

Yeah, I can see how that'd be annoying. The game spoilers get tossed around WAY to heavily in show topics. I've been spoiled about it long ago before the first season even came out just from all the hubbub over it so at this point I don't give a shit about seeing the spoilers for other shit. People can say they black them out, but it's pretty obvious what it is in context.
