I don't know of any point in history when this wasn't true (and it disappoints me).
For many reasons (most dated, all stupid) male is the preferred gender for expecting parents.
Not to says all, many or most parents want boys and don't want girls. I think MOST parents are neutral, they may lean one way or another but they'll be happy with either.
BUT of the ones who are actively hoping for one gender over the other to the point that they will be legitimately upset if they don't get their preferred gender... it is always wanting a boy.
I have NEVER seen parents get upset about getting a boy, the way some parents get about getting a girl... and it's disgusting.
Lol then you never met my mom. Though I will say in her case, it was moseso because she already had two boys prior to having me and while she was happy having two boys before, she really did want at least one girl.
Unfortunately, once I was born, she was DEVASTATED when she found i was a boy...at first. She really wanted a girl and I was her last chance to have one since my parents wisely decided to stop at three kids. Technically I wasn't even planned. I was a surprise.
Fortunately, my mom isn't heartless and gave me as much attention and love as the rest of my brothers so at the end of the day it doesn't matter what gender I was born.
It does make me wonder how my dad would've been though because he was the one that actively wanted all boys and no girls and apparently even prayed for those outcomes each time my mom was pregnant according to my mom so who knows?
