is it hard to beat no man's sky on survival mode?

Based on Steam stats fewer than 1% of players have actually reached the center of the galaxy on extreme / survival mode. Just wondering if it's because it's hard or just too time consuming? I might try it out having only played an hour of the game in the past...

It's not particularly difficult. But there are quite a few unexpected ways to die, so it's harder than it might look at first.
