Too young to be a full-on '90s kid, but also not quite Gen Z. The pre-1995 crowd still had a lot of analog childhood experiences (VHS tapes, landlines, dial-up internet), whereas post-1997 kids were fully immersed in the digital world with social media, smartphones, and high-speed internet from an early age.
It's like the difference between growing up with AIM and Messenger versus Snapchat and TikTok.
1996 also seems like a "lost-year" in terms of well-known celebrities or athletes. There are tons from 1995 and 1997, but 1996 doesn't have as many obvious names that come to mind.
