There are also certain places that got screwed up by the Next Gen Upgrade.

Saugus/The Slog is a big one, the Enclave quest has a habit of screwing that place up and you crash to desktop on approach, since it adds a field camp right between the two.

On my current file I can make it to the front door of Saugus from exactly one direction, and I can't get to The Slog at all, complete crash from every direction. Have yet to find a fix.

No Public Swimming Ghoul settlement for me.

Also, on PC, Bethesda never fixed not being able to harvest the wild variant of razorgrain, despite requiring it as a crafting component for specific meds in survival mode.

After Starfield though, if Bethesda can't put actual passion back into their work for TES6 they'll be finished.

I found a cool lever action rifle but I don't like the fact that it's only 5 shots.

I've been using that Legendary Effects Overhaul for that.

You can pop up to five individual effects on any item, the first slot done with "Legendary Microchips" you get from scrapping legendaries, then 2-5 need you to have the LM as well as the Legendary Mod.

So if you pull the Neverending off of one of the guaranteed drops (I think University Point has one as a laser rifle) or by adding a Neverending to the first slot then replacing it, you get a copy of that mod and can toss it onto a new gun.

I usually grab one for lever actions or revolvers, but I got a Neverending Double Barrel Shotgun as, like, my third actual legit drop and it's a monstrosity.

Also comes with a couple original effects, some cribbed from FO76, that sort of thing. Like Deadeye to get a few seconds of slowmo when you use sights/scope.

I'm currently doing quests for the children of the atom in far harbor. I think I took the third option when I played through FH before so I might wipe out the children this time.

I think the Children of Atom are a stupid faction, but I don't feel like I got any worthwhile amount of climactic satisfaction out of wiping them out the one time I did it. It's not like the BoS where you get the thrill of epically mowing them down by the dozens while reprogramming Liberty Prime to destroy both the Prydwen and itself in the process. Making peace with everybody feels good and leaves all the merchants available on the Island.

I've only done FH once, but I've beaten the game a couple times and I think I always go Minutemen.

I don't like doing endings that involve me eradicating a group with some good ideas full of people who I have come to like.

I'd have to assume there's a mod.

There's one for skipping the "take Raiders from Nuka-World to Commonwealth and piss off Preston" bit at least, I'd assume someone has made one to skip the almost universally-agreed-upon worst part of the game.

Yeah, there's next to no good reason to side with the Nuka raiders unless you're RPing as a puppy-kicking evildoer, and it's nice that the game gives you a clear option to just wipe them out at the start and explore the park at your own leisure.

Best part is that after you wipe them out you can go straight to the power plant and get the lights turned on, instead of being forced to wait until after you've already explored the whole place.

Mass Fusion is the point of no return between Institute and BoS, though I think there's an exploit or two that can bypass this (the wiki's got a page dedicated to this that I was looking at the other day, but I can't find it atm). Turning against the Railroad is one of the last things the Institute makes you do, so you've got some time before that one. The BoS forces you against the Railroad immediately after Blind Betrayal, which is fairly early in their Act 3 questline.

I ended up siding with the Institute as far as Mass Fusion goes. I'll probably do Minutemen or RR for my ending

There's a mod that lets you invade Nuka-World with an army of Minutemen, but I'm pretty sure you need a NASA-caliber PC to run it without crashing.

Though I am thinking about using the FCOM mod next time I play to call in a small squad of buddies and make it a proper fight, now that the game finally runs smoothly on XB.

the writing and pacing in the game suck ass.

the main plot reveal just happens in the middle of the game the very first possible opportunity for it to happen and there's no build up or anything.

FO76 is actually more interesting imo and I hated the concept of that game when it released.

I occasionally do an evil playthrough to vibe with my raider homies, but in general, I wished the default raider settlement stuff was better. The implementation blows and it's just "we're mostly normal settlements, except we steal from our neighbors and decorate our property with spiky cages".

The main reason I don't like the NW system is that the Operators perk is so goddamn good.

-10% visibility in shadows
+25% Damage with silenced weapons

They do have the fun Chem vending machines, but yeah... They're mostly just inferior Settlers, and you still have to do the legwork of upgrading other Settlements only to then turn them over to the harassment of the Raiders lest you receive inferior results.
"I'd rather betray the world than let the world betray me." -Cao Cao
Yeah, upgrading settlements with some TLC and your supply lines, only to immediately stab 'em in the back as you let Cutthroat Pete and Buzzsaw roll in from Nuka-World to conquer their pitiful (but well-maintained) strawberry farm. I forget if you can undo the bandit stuff -- perhaps by killing them and renewing your bond by some radiant quest -- but it's just a lot of time-wasting, supply-dwindling crap you'd think you could avoid somehow.

And you can't even give your normal settlements the chem locker to boost their happiness (I think it was), as another arbitrary rule kicks you in your power-armored nads. When I was going for the trophy to boost happiness to the max, I could've used that! Instead, I took in all the pet cats in the tri-county area and dumped them into their new cement village.

I'm pretty sure Preston gives you the quest to kill the Raiders in your towns/NW proper (regaining settlements/Minutemen status) but otherwise tells you to get the fuck out of his face forever.

Otherwise you'd be able to lock yourself out of every path to the ending.

There's a caveat to that. If he has yet to offer you the position of 'General' it is possible to get the quest from him to clear out the Nuka World Raiders and thus gain his friendship per the usual route. But that means playing the game in an unnatural order as you have to avoid Preston's early missions and instead storm into the DLC content to bring Raiders into the Commonwealth.

If you were already promoted to 'General' then, yeah, Preston hates you. He'll begrudgingly cooperate if you use the Minutemen to end the main quest, but only because they are the ultimate failsafe route. Otherwise he wants nothing to do with you. The point of no return for that is laying a Raider Flag in a Settlement.

I've never played a male character in Fallout 4, but based on every anecdote I've heard over the years, I'm convinced that the difference in voice acting quality between the male (bad) and female (considerably better) Sole Survivor had a big influence on peoples' opinion of the game.

And melee is absolute ass in this game. The only time I ever have any fun with it is sneak-knifing people or walloping them with a rocket baseball bat / Cito's Shiny Slugger, because those are the only options that can hold a candle damage output-wise to gunplay.
Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read.
Yeah, melee is usually either stealth with Blitz going for specific knife upgrades, or rocket-bats potentially played in third person while wearing power armor(power armor in third person gives faster animations for certain two-handed weapons IIRC).

Does anyone know of any rebalance mods to make melee more powerful?
There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds.
Not really, I only started playing with melee after my character was an utterly broken monstrosity.

Though that lightsaber mod helps in terms of damage.

I'm rolling around with mine using the absolute weakest "damage" mod because it's like 1000+ in multiple damage types if you max it out.

It's called "Energy Blades."

Past that, the Overhauls I mentioned on the first page will let you mess with your items for power. Slap a full set of Heavy Combat Armor, cosmetic alter it to be light or invisible (since bulky armor is uggo), pop a couple Legendary effects on each piece, and it helps.

You can also mess with your movement speed/jump height with the same mod, might make getting there easier.

Oh, sudden weird reminder!

I downloaded a mod called "Uniquely Uniques" or something like that, it takes the named Legendaries and gives them unique effects.

I'm not sure which specific bat it is (wanna say the one Moe sells) but one gets a mod that gives it a small chance to explode like a Baseball Grenade on contact. Dunno if it does splash damage to you, I'd certainly hope not.

They also make them like Kremvh's Tooth, where the effect actually replaces an attachment slot and can be moved onto other guns.

That Danse laser rifle gets bonus damage in power armor, the Overseer's Rifle does more damage indoors, Pickman's gets something I can't remember, Le Fusil Terrible instantly kills anything it hits that's swimming.

So they aren't all winners.

I used damage modifier mods on certain weapons for awhile, but kinda fell out of habit with them. My favorite weapon in FO3 was the Heavy Incinerator (less so in NV due to Damage Threshold, but I still got a lot of use out of it), so I grabbed that sucker up the instant it released as a Creation; I was really miffed with the short range and low rate of fire, so I started using a mod that fixed both. Didn't take long to realize that the base game HI is already overpowered as fuck with the proper perks, and the mod adjustment put it at or slightly above Explosive Minigun levels of completely broken.

Anti-Materiel Rifle seriously needs a damage boost mod, though. I swear they made that Creation the way they did simply as a middle finger to NV. When a weak-ass AMR and Sunset Sarsaparilla t-shirts are the only NV content to make it into a Creation Club otherwise populated by shit from Doom and Prey and fuckin' Skyrim, it's clear that someone at Bethesda still holds a grudge against that game.
