Bro Mario Galaxy is so fuckin good. Just finished playing the Switch port. Theres so much content. So much level variety. Every track on the OST is a fuckin masterpiece. Plenty of boss fights. Epic bowser fights. Rosalinas storybook is so good and PLAYABLE LUIGI!

Mario Sunshine on the other hand is so comically unfinished. Theres like ten levels and half of them are samey. Its easily the glitchiest 3D Mario. Theres no final level before the last boss. Theres the infamous sand bird level, pachinko level, and river of death that takes twenty minutes just to get to. And peoples favorite levels are the ones where the game takes away the main gimmick.

Lets be honest with ourselves Sunshine bois

Because they like it better?
I do think Galaxy is better in general but I definitely prefer the collectathon style of Sunshine to the linear levels of Galaxy

Sunshine is my least favorite 3D Mario, but it was still a good game. The bar is super high.

And to each their own. If they like Sunshine the most, more power to them and I hope they have a great time playing it.

I prefer the collectathon style of Sunshine / 64 but Galaxy is just so much better. Sunshine is a half baked beautiful disaster. A case of what could have been.

See, the movement is good in a vacuum and Delfino Plaza is a neat hub. This exuses every single issue Sunshine has and makes it the best 3D platformer ever made.

I find Sunshine so unpolished. I don't hate it but to me its the weakest one in comparison to 64 and Galaxy.

Not a completionist myself so I hated how it is mandatory that you play through some of the shittest shines of the game.

IMO Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are pretty much perfect games, never actually played Sunshine but Galaxy would be a really tough one to beat.

I need to sit down and play Sunshine some time
The Legend is True!
i basically dont enjoy anything about galaxy. the new characters, the level designs, the story, the aesthetic
My fate was the grandest, most brilliant of them all.

I like both games, but Galaxy is the 2nd best Mario game of all time

Tbh despite some of the complaints in this topic it's still a Mario game and still a good time. I liked it a lot.

Just don't bother collecting all the blue coins it's not worth the hassle imo

im a very "superficial" gamer. if a game is ugly, i find it really hard to extract much merit from the rest of it. idk if its a sensory thing or what

Sunshine remains the only 3D Mario game I like
Kill the legs first, that's an ironclad battle tactic!
the movement in Galaxy just isn't very good, but literally everything else about it mogs the fuck out of sunshine.

Sunshine is a decent 3D platformer in its own right, but it really falls below the standard set by the other 3D Marios.

It's not a bad game, but it's the seven out-of-teniest 7/10 going.

To it's credit, though, I have to say that the vibes are impeccable.

Galaxy is an absolute masterpiece, though.

From what Ive seen IRL, it seems like for a lot of people who favor Sunshine, it was their first Mario game and GameCube was their first Nintendo console, or they at least feel a certain nostalgic connection towards the game and / or console.

Or they just have shitty opinions.
I don't even have a pla-
Mario Galaxy is obviously better and Ive never seen someone claim otherwise

but the sunshine hate is overblown. The game is fine
Galaxy is a snooze fest that's all presentation, little substance. Mario moves around like a tank yet despite that it's still by far the easiest 3D Mario, thus slow and boring.

Sunshine is pretty fun if you play it casually. Blue Coin collecting absolutely sucks though.

I forgot to mention how dumb the blue coins are. The game stops to ask if you want to save EVERY SINGLE TIME. What is up with that lmao

And it literally does not contribute to your game progress at all. To reach the credits, you have to face Shadow Mario on each of the stages (I think this is the 7th Shine on each stage?) This is the opposite of how Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy work. In those games youre just required to get like 70 stars, but they can be any stars you want. So basically any shines you get in Delfino Plaza are pointless. And the blue coins are pointless. Trying to get 100% completion in Sunshine is somehow worse than DK64. To this day Ive never done it.

I'm conflicted. I prefer the free-roaming games, but Sunshine feels like a half-baked version of 64. Galaxy is tighter, but is much less exploration focused.
...I think I'm done here...
Everyone that's a fan of Sunshine should look up Super Mario Eclipse.
