We have 24 hour Fox News.

Orwell actually underestimated how long you could feed people hatred in video form and how they would return for a second helping themselves like it was an all you can eat restaurant.

It doesn't even take torture to make them love big brother.

It's scary that the biggest mistake in 1984 was that it was too optimistic.
It's all true.
Isn't Oceania specifically socialist?

It claims to be socialist, but the party has no actual ideology other than maintaining their own power. This is explicitly stated in the book.

Do you also believe Nazis are socialists?

No but it's pretty clear Oceania is socialist in the novel. The novel isn't really about fascism it's about authoritarianism. Orwell himself was a believer of democratic socialism.

It just so happens fascism is inherently authoritarian.

Something I've been thinking about lately...
Were the three countries really in a never ending war, or was UK something like an isolated North Korea where the population were fed lies and false flag rockets?

Except they aren't.

There is no shared ownership of the means of production. There is no socialist economy in play. Hell, there is a clear class dichotomy with the Proles, who are basically just mindless animal drones being exploited for resources, as far as most of the characters are concerned.

There is no socialism in the book. There is complete totalitarian authoritarianism, which just so happens to be what McCarthyists think socialism looks like.

Comparing it to the "National Socialists" is a pretty fuckin on-point comparison.
Doesn't take a lot of brains to be a good fighter.
