My setup is around $1000 and is incredibly more powerful than $500-$600 consoles. I also don't pay to play online.

For me, i mostly play games I got for free from streaming services like amazon...
Or games I bought when they were on sale on steam, GOG, humble bundle. Hell I managed to get a few Xbox games for free because of Microsoft promotional offers either through Samsung wallet or because they actually gave out like $5 to spend.

Probably the best part of pc gaming is when certain games cost like $1-$5
Because I'm cheap that way, even if I gotta wait 5-10 years for those games to hit a discount like that >__>

Ps5 and new oled tv combo is pretty nice imo. Was surprised that while playing ratchet rift apart the vrr and 120hz option being enabled made 30 fps look smooth. I know latency will be higher but a lot of these aaa cinematic titles honestly don't require tight inputs tbh.

Though ofc id rather have a maxed out pc rig just so I can sit closer to the TV (like 4-5 ft away) and have it look real sharp at higher native res.

Omg i want to see Alan wake 2 running on A rtx 4090 or higher rig hooked to an oled. Bet it looks amazing maybe the best graphics atm. I already think it looks real good on base ps5 and quality setting.

My PC was fairly expensive for what it was in 2016 and right now its still hanging on with a i7 6700K CPU and a RX 6600 XT GPU. Going to try to ride this out a little bit more/maybe around 2029 (basically when trump back out of office) and go for some upgrades then since these days I'm mainly just playing emulators or indies on the PC.

The PS5 pro been slapping for me though since I already had a more premium TV to use with it beforehand.

Really, I still stand by my sentiment that most graphics past the OG Xbox & GameCube, are a point of diminishing returns. As for PC gaming itself, it's easy to understand why they're so obsessed with performance: they've spent a shitload on some of the most high-end CPUs & GPUs; they need the validation of that, even though we're at the point where most improvements are only seriously noticeable in a side-by-side comparison.

I'd say 7th gen instead of 6th, but I agree. They should have shifted to at least a ten year generation at that point. We should be talking about PS5 coming out next year, or later.

The thing about 6th gen graphics is they were limited by SD resolutions. The old CRTs made them look better (I still have one that I've been using a lot lately), but even so, the jump to even 720p made a big difference.

This is why the remasters from that era still look fine. The upscaled textures make a huge difference, and it's also all they really need. That and maybe some shaders if you wanted it to look more modern.

Console games cost $130 now?

In any case, the sales on PC storefronts have been getting less and less impressive for a while now. I think they've caught in that people are waiting for the sales instead of buying at launch.

Jokes on u, I leech ps plus on my friend who kept buying a bunch those 1 year cards when it was on sale. Good thing I check physical and digital deals so I don't get ripped off on that $130
As long as Consoles remain relatively affordable, their will always be a market for them. The only reason I game so often on the PC started when I got to WFH and realized just how convenient a PC was and being able to have a lot of utility on it made it worth me spending about $3000's on part alone.

Nah, I switched to PC in '20. The sales and especially the freebies have been getting a lot less appealing.

Epic gives away a free game every week, and I think it's been like a year since I bothered to pick up a single one.

Sure, you can argue freebies are at least a thing on PC, but it kinda doesn't matter when the game is

Im contemplating doing a build this year that would cost far more than that, but Im on my PC all day and I save money in the long run through sales, bundles, freebies, and not being nickeled and dimed.

But PC is about the intangibles to me. Its an open platform that lets me do what I want however I want. I want to emulate old systems at multiple times resolution and 60+ FPS, I can do it without modding a console. I want to mod my games, its my playground. I want to unlock an arbitrarily locked frame rate, easy peasy.

Frame rate is the most importantly to me performance wise. Anything under 90 FPs feels laggy to me. The graphics are just a bonus.

Most Steam sales are the same on consoles, especially the big season/holiday ones such as summer & Black Friday; they'll usually be running pretty closely, if not concurrently. Also, outside some special outlier, most of the "sales" are so routine, they should honestly just be the base price, & I suspect they only keep the "sale" to exploit limited time FOMO mentality.

Yeah, just wishlist it, & wait until you get a notice for a discount you like. I think the secret was fully exposed when Steam had that contest where you could win a free game off your wishlist, & everyone emptied their list, to ensure they got the most expensive one, before it was clarified that the game only had to be at your #1 spot. Though yeah, if you wait long enough, most PC games can be acquired for less than $40; $20 if you're really diligent, & that's not even including things like Humble Bundle or those sketchy second market activation code sites.

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about. I might have spent more than $20 on like two games since switching to PC, but now that's becoming a more competitive price because the sale prices for even the same games that were on sale last year are higher than they were last year.

PC gamers when they have 8 different storefronts and 10 different friends lists to manage.

I noticed my buddy was playing Marvel Rivals the other day on PC and I wanted to invite him to a game and check out his profile. Couldn't find it. We're friends on steam, it shows him playing the game via steam but apparently I need to add him separately in the game itself?

This might be the case if the game has crossplay (Tekken 8 manages friends in a rather ugly, but similar fashion, though you CAN see and invite people who are on your chosen storefront's friend list).
