Was based off of Newt (Nute) Gingrich and Ronald Reagan (Gunray - Raygun)

I legitimately did not know this until now. George Lucas is actually pretty based

Despite what the chuds think, Star Wars was never on their side.
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
It's like poetry. They rhyme.
See you next Wednesday.
Another fun one I just saw: General Grievous' ship is called "The Invisible Hand"...as in the invisible hand of the free-market

Didn't he also base Palpatine on both Hitler and Nixon? Feel like I heard the Nixon comparison somewhere.

Yes, I've seen that Lucas said that Palpatine before becoming a Sith was basically Richard Nixon

"But the only thing poetic here is that I was vomiting in stanzas. I don't even know what that means."

Ah, gotcha. I think he made an Ewoks = Vietcong comparison too.

You know, they should do a trivia show where they just throw out Star Wars-sounding names and the contestants have to guess whether they're actually a Star Wars character or a fake name that the studio made up.
Arguing on CE be all like:

Yeah, he basically based the entirety of Return of the Jedi on the Vietnam War, with the Ewoks/Rebels meant to be the Vietcong

A lot of things in the Star Wars franchise are unoriginal. Lucas just looked for things from different cultures or periods in history and incorporated them into the movies. I almost shit a brick as a kid when I saw a native American statue in the Smithsonian with Princes Leia's hair buns.
This is where cool people write stuff.

Tbf though, that's part of what makes Star Wars great. It's just a mish-mash of all the shit Lucas found cool during film school. Westerns, pirate movies, WWII movies, space operas, samurai movies, Eastern philosophy, etc.,

IIRC, people on Yahoo Answers used to say Raygun instead of Reagan because posts using his name in the title often wouldn't show up.
"It was horrible," guard Jeff McInnis said.
"I took 100 naps and we were still in the air."
