Mandy Moore probably isn't all that rich tbh
This tbh. At least by Hollywood standards. But still this always comes off a bit tone deaf when a celeb begs for money lol. Plz help my in-laws rebuild their mansion while Cali continues to have a huge homeless problem.

If I was wealthy, and my relatives made their own GoFundMe themselves to help pay for any costs, you're damn right I'm still going to share it.

I mean, the house she just lost to the fire is also a part of that networth and it probably makes up for almost half of it.

Oh no she only still has more than 3x what the average American will make in their entire lifetime what a tragedy

If I were wealthy and my relatives needed money because of an emergency, I'd fucking handle it myself, not pawn responsibility on a bunch of nobodies.

Of course, that implies a lack of greed that pretty thoroughly precludes me from getting that wealthy in the first place, so it's a crapshoot.

Are the insurance companies going to deny coverage and do everything possible to avoid payouts for all these wealthy people like they do all the time for the poor?

Honestly this is how everyone should be looking at this. The insurance companies should pay out but hey guess what, they dont. Its a bad system

If someone has fire insurance how can they not pay out when there's a fire? I don't even have the best insurance and it covers more than the price of the house plus everything in it. It also covers a rental home until mine's rebuilt.

Iiuc a lot some people had their fire insurance rescinded about a month ago. Take that for what you will. But yeah some insurance companies find excuses for anything and everything to obvious reasons.

That's insane when fire is the #1 reason to have home owners insurance, especially in that area. I'd be paranoid as hell if I didn't have it for 1 day.

So, as far as I know she was just sharing a family members link. We dont know how much shes given them or is going to give them. I will say that Mandys house was just destroyed too, and she also has a newborn (November or December, something like that). Yeah, the timing is gauche (thats really the perfect word to use there), but I cant say I wouldnt do the same thing in her position.

Posting a family's go fund me link isnt out if touch.

Believing that doing so is in any way wrong, or something that any normal human wouldn't do, is the out of touch thing.

Ppl pretending they'd buy their friends entire houses, or that any friend would even request that from one individual, regardless of the level of income. Complete detachment from real life on display.

Almost all instances of GoFundMe make me cringe, TBH.

If "almost all" is higher than 50%, you're including kids who had to take $65k ambulance rides or needed a single dose of a medication that costs $2.1m making you "cringe," because the undercounted number of claims is 33%, which means medical claims on GoFundMe have to reasonably cross 50%.

Resorting to GoFundMe when faced with bills has become so accepted that, in some cases, patient advocates and hospital financial aid officers recommend crowdfunding as an alternative to being sent to collections.

[...]

GoFundMe acknowledges the reliance of patients on its platform. Ari Romio, a spokesperson for the company, said that medical expenses is the most common category of fundraiser it hosts. [...] So although the company has estimated in the past that roughly a third of the funds raised on the site are related to costs for illness or injury, that could be an undercount .

Emphasis mine

for reference the family member was asking for $175,000 in the gofundme, and Mandy Moore made at least $21 million cash from This Is Us salary alone (not including performance bonuses) from 2016-2022

absolutely no need to ask her average-person followers to chip in when Mandy Moore should be able to cover those expenses with less than the amount of money she made for a single This is Us episode ($250,000/episode)

People who lose their home deserve sympathy and support. Doesn't matter who they are.

There's more to it than just having the cash to replace what was lost.

Then ask their rich friends for the money and assistance, privately.

Don't put the link out to your followers who are probably struggling to make ends meet and may or may not have been impacted themselves. Like, this isn't some kind of poor person Spirit Bomb where "Please, give me your wealth!!!" is a good look for a wealthy celeb.

Shit, if this was a voice actor the backlash would somehow be worse than what she's getting despite most of them *actually* being poor.

She wasn't asking for any money for herself.

Anyone who is struggling to make ends meet, or has been affected themselves shouldn't make a voluntary donation.

She shared a link and asked people to consider it. She didn't demand the poverty-stricken empty their pockets into her bank account.

Shit, if this was a voice actor the backlash would somehow be worse than what she's getting despite most of them *actually* being poor.

I don't know what this has to do with your imaginary voice actor doing imaginary things and getting an imaginary backlash, but if you say so.

Do you find it "abhorrent" when celebrities go on TV ads or concerts or whatever to raise money for disaster relief? Shouldn't those people "just give money themselves"?

You don't see a difference in disaster relief for people who are more likely than not to be not wealthy, versus asking for money for a very close family member of you, a multi-millionare?

The celebs should of be giving money towards disaster relief and appealing that others do as well. It's a much more efficient use of people's charity dollars in that case

Asking for donations is silly if you have the means to reasonably cover an expense yourself.

I don't know the particulars in this case but the statement above encompasses my feelings on all fundraisers basically.

If you have a mortgage they *require* full coverage home insurance for obvious reasons. The Mortgage company is the one loosing out if the home goes up in smoke.

I assume a lot of rich people buy their homes in cash or inherit it where there isn't a mortgage involved, so they think they can scrape by with minimal coverage.

She made between $4.5-$7 a season on This is Us. She also gets good money from its streaming deals
Thats just that one show, thats not counting her music sales, other movies and shows she did and advertising she did.

but yeah its weird for her to ask people to buy her brother or something a new drum set and all when she alone has many, many millions.
And thats not counting how rich her husband is. Hes a record producer and alone worth over $11 million.
and from what I saw, the family members shes asking for money for were already well off, not like her, but make way more than many of us combined on here make and could afford million dollar homes

whats also absurd is the person to create the GoFundMe was Hillary Duff and her husband. Other multimillionaire celebrities.
so stupid
