Is the .3 off the absolute limit a maxed TAS or have we superceded TAS?

Pretty nuts he does this on keyboard
You generally can't get better than TAS unless a new exploit is found. In the case of SMB the assembly code has been thoroughly documented so chances of somehow finding something new that can improve the tas is pretty close to zero.
It's probably necessary. IIRC some speedrun tricks require either playing on keyboard or shaving down the underside of your NES d-pad because the tricks require multiple frame-perfect inputs that involve switching between left and right rapidly and it's physically not possible on a normal controller.
Keyboard offers no advantage, and it is actually debatably worse for speedrunning this game. I use keyboard over controller for personal preference reasons, I have been playing games on keyboard since a little kid, and I have a very good feel for it compared to controller.

Another misconception is that some people think I am able to input L+R using a keyboard. It is possible to do so, but since it isn't possible with a standard NES controller without it being broken or modified, inputting this is banned. I have to have an option in my emulator settings that makes L+R input nothing, so no invalid input was done during this run.

This is underappreciated in gaming communities. I'm not going to replace my fightpads with hitboxes when I can do everything I need to as second nature, already.
Every current hitbox user has said basically the same thing until they started using a hitboxsort of incidental to the actual topic here but I loved seeing as, over the course of a few years, the general sentiment on these things went from "lol hitbox? as if" to calling them "cheatboxes"

what is a hitboxIt's a fairly modern controller design, mostly used in fighting game communities

Really? I thought Super Mario Bros was "solved" and the best WR was achieved. Did this guy just do the same route even faster or did he find new tech? >_>
It's solved theoretically through TAS. No one has actually managed to do it yet.Oh, my bad.
