It's a fun game. Played through it at launch so some of what I'm about to say may be obsolete already.

You can realistically do two if not three solid different playstyles with one character, between hacking, stealth melee, stealth ranged, regular Rambo mode or regular melee. I recommend exploring different options.

"Hacking", the equivalent of magic in the game, starts off kind of weak but quickly becomes pretty OP.

The main story and the side content felt like it was created by two different teams. Meaning, the main story is much slower, more methodical, and can drag on, while the side content in the open world has this near ideal spacing and pacing that makes it addictive to just flow between and complete. I recommend trying not to get too caught up in completing ALL the side content despite how easy it is to get through it because it can make completing the main story a real slog. So try to balance the content out if you can.

With regards to character background it doesn't affect anything except maybe the first half hour or so of your gameplay and some token dialog choices that don't affect anything. Based on how the different background intro sequences were designed it really feels like there was supposed to be more to each but they ran out of time or something and decided to just split it up. But w/e.

Before you put too many points into crafting double check if it's even worth it. I think I was doing some crafting but don't remember if it ended up being too helpful or not.

Anyway have fun, game was janky as shit at launch but I really enjoyed it *because* of that. Don't know how it is now and haven't played Phantom Liberty.

Went Street Kid, put most of my points into Intelligence, with Cool as a close second.

I wanna be a hacker who can pull off stealth kills and shit. I also want to try out Reflex for the melee too.

I love the way my character looks. I'm still playing so I'll post pics later.

I also reloaded my save just to call the cop a pig in the beginning. I regretted not taking that choice. >_> lol
I would advise against reflex, itd be a waste with the rest of the build IMO, but you can respec now, so you could make a save, the. Respec into a Reflex build and try it out, then reload the save.

I dont even think you need to. In my first playthrough, I didnt put a single point into Reflex, Body (maybe 1 for some prerequisite on a chnerware or something), or any of the melee related perks, and I could still one shot anyone with the Satori. Im fuzzy on the details but I think it was more or less the same after the rework, maybe a few hits instead of one.

Since you mentioned hacking and stealth, give this build a look.

I used it on my replay and its a blast for that playstyle.

Forgot to mention the game was initially running like ass and I was afraid it'd crash so I changed all my graphical settings to medium and that seems to be working so far. I'm going to play around with it later though.

Enough that most of your advice is pretty outdated.

Crafting isn't even a skill anymore, they completely reworked the skill and perk systems.

You can respec at will now, too.

It's still there, but the only requirements are to find schematics and have the components, no skill level necessary. There's schematics for most regular weapons, then the unique ones. The former isn't really worth it.

Character level is what handles the quality, so making something at 10 will probably be green if it's a unique.

Then you can upgrade Iconic weapons in a different menu, which is nice.

Give it time, try it out first.

The way the throwing knife setup works is possibly the best I've ever seen for the weapon type.

Optical camo on crouch-running is also pretty nice.

I don't usually bother bringing Cool to 20 unless I'm specializing in pistols or knives, though.

With Phantom Liberty, you get enough points to get attributes to 20/20/20/18/3.

Very helpful if you don't want to be a Netrunner, just dump Intelligence, but a little less smooth if you do.

Netrunner shotty is very viable, though, some of the Smart shotguns are delightful. Same skills also effect LMGs but I really doubt any are Smart and there aren't very many of them in general.

My last Netrunner went for SMGs, you get an ability to reload them every time you swap and there are several great Smart ones. Unload with one, swap, unload, swap, unload, swap, the fun don't stop until you're out of bullets.

I'd recommend going Berserk or Sandevistan over having a Cyberdeck if you're gonna melee, though. Closing the distance can be a little painful without them. Not at all impossible, it just works a lot better, especially with 60 in Shinobi.

Fuck I'm kinda regretting putting points into Cool. Dunno if I want to go stealth, kinda want to fuck shit up with melee and shotguns tbh.

Should I respec now?
I cant imagine doing that game without stealth capability. So many missions have a heavy emphasis on it and would feel wrong any other way. You dont need a single point in melee anything to fuck shit up with melee (though you might in 2.0, I cant remember. Pretty sure Satori still fucked shit up for me).

So what's the diff between Berserk or Sandevistan and having a Cyberdeck? >_>

A lot of this stuff is confusing. lol
My bad, got caught up in jargon.

You have 4 options regarding your Operating System cyberware, top right corner.

Cyberdeck: Hacking.

Sandevistan: Slow motion. Duck and weave bullets, slice the shit out of people, throw five knives in five guys in a real-time second.

Berserk: More melee damage, healthgate (health can't drop under some percentage, some go clear up to invulnerability during effect), just go hog wild and start swinging.

Cyberware Compressor: More cyberware capacity. Dumb.

May be mods to do more than one, I don't know that scene at all.

ImAMarvel posted...
Is there really no third-person mode for this outside of driving without mods?
Photo mode is pretty decent nowadays, and you can hang some up in your apartments.

Other than that, it's basically just mirrors and like one cutscene.

Remember specific clothing stores, they have their own inventory tendencies.

Maybe I am making a mistake by going Netrunner/melee then. lol
You can still do it, especially with a Monowire. You just won't have a couple advantages other builds might. I feel like Runners usually end up with Smart weapons just because they share a tree, but nothing stops you from doing something else.

Also what is with only being able to equip 3 weapons at once?
You can technically have four once you get cyberware weapons, but it's just the game build. You can swap weapons pretty freely during combat, though.

I got 9 points in INT now, but I also really want to use shotguns too. >_>

Probably not optimizing my skill tree. lol
Just focus on getting certain skills to certain tiers then grabbing more.

Like, 9 gets you a new set of perks to unlock in Int while you bring Body up to snuff, then you unlock those new perks while bumping up Int or Tech.

You'll probably want 20 Int before anything else, especially for Overclock, but you can make progress in other attributes.

Is Overclock really good?
It's pretty essential for higher-level hacking, since RAM costs start getting expensive.

Also pairs with some of the bonuses in the Netrunning skill, but they're way the hell at the top so you've got plenty of time to nab it before that becomes a factor.

Yes.

At the very least there's a PL gig that has you wearing one.

It's a Quest item and won't get out of my goddamn inventory, so I remember it well.

There's at least one more that comes from Act One, but I think that one is only available in the customization screen. Entirely possible I'm wrong and broke it down for components, though.

Then you can mix and match jackets/shirts/pants/shoes to make fancier outfits, but that runs into "this shirt is almost a match for these pants" shit.

Anyway, got up to the first (presumably) playable section with Johnny Silverhand and shortly afterward. Love where the plot is heading.
Yes. Its essential for a Netrunner.

One of the PL routes also gives you a reward that basically lets you use it again instantly after it goes on cooldown too.

I tried doing a Netrunner build but it's really fucking slow and weak at the beginning of the game. I switched over to katana and running into a room activating, berserk and, then dicing everyone is pretty fun.

I made a Reflex/Body/Tech person and gave her almost all the melee perks.

I didn't realize how much fun a baseball bat and Sandevistan can be.

I've got the super-fucking-fancy Sandy, so people are damn near frozen.

Come tearing in, slam across the head, then while they're still lifting off the ground they get another from the other side and take off.

I once knocked a guy's leg into his head.

It's like The Flash meets The Bear Jew.

Fringe benefit: the 20 Body perk for Blunt weapons gives you a finisher that either plays an animated execution or lets you pick the dude up and huck him at another dude.

Officially this only works when using bats or your fists.

However, it works with any body you pick up.

So now if I need to hide a corpse I toss it over one shoulder and can sprint, jump, and dodge freely, even with blades equipped.

Then hitting the trigger lets me huck the body.

It's pretty helpful.

I double-checked, thought Overclock was a 20 perk but it's 15.

So I'd recommend beelining to 15 Int and then focusing on a few other skills, probably Body for the shotty perks, Reflex for dash, or Tech for more cyberware capacity (if you're into that.)

20 Int by level 40 or so, though.
