I found a complete copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Gamecube at Gamestop last night for $97. I told myself that if I found a whole copy (game case and all), I'd consider it. I checked Pricecharting.com and it was indeed a good deal. So I bit the bullet and bought it. Ended up being $102 with tax.

I've been waiting so long for Nintendo to re-release this and Wind Waker for the Switch (it's one the few games for the Wii U that have yet to be ported) yet they keep delaying it. My guess is that they're waiting for a slow period to release the ports, but it's frustrating.

I've joked that the moment I buy this game, the universe will respond by having Nintendo announce the Switch version a week later, so if that happens, you're all welcome =/

It's funny. This game is readily available everywhere for the Wii and is priced at 1/4 of the Gamecube version ($25). It's telling how much people don't want to deal with the tacked on motion controls.

What's the most expensive video game you've ever bought? I know this is probably lunch money compared to what others have paid for some rarer entries.

Gamestop brought old games back?

Anyways, I bought the collectors edition for Persona 5, I think it was 120 or something

Most have a few retro games and some even have entire retro game sections. It's nice.

in the past, the most I paid for a game was probably $70, and that was GTAV, with the steel book, when it first came out.

more recently, since games are $70 now, I think the most I paid was for the deluxe version of Baldur's Gate 3, which was about $80, since you could play three days early (plus some other extras).

I got cart and Manual for Harvest Moon SNES last year. That will likely be the most expensive unless I ever decide to drop the money to get Earthbound.
This is a signature.
Im not a collector so I have only ever purchased games for systems that were current at the time. So nothing too crazy. But when I was in high school the retail price of Phantasy Star III was $74.99 in my area of the U.S. at launch on Sega Genesis. That was pricey for early 90s teenage me.

Considering it was the summer before my sophomore year in high school I thought that was a pricey game and a significant bump over the standard NES games I had been buying for $49.99 mostly though I did pay $64.99 for Genghis Khan on NES. Even for a Genesis game the price was higher than normal.

Also Im not a collector but I do enjoy some special editions and I paid $300 for the Wizards edition of Ni No Kuni on ps3 because I wanted it. Otherwise the vast majority of my purchases have been standard price. Im a massive gaming junkie and Ill spends tens of thousands on the audio and video devices to play these games but the games themselves have been 99% normal retail prices.

A lot of Gamecube games have shot up in price these days. Wind Waker is going for $65-70. Double Dash usually costs the same. The Gamecube Mario Party games usually will cost at least $40 each. It was the worst selling yet people see how fantastic the console really was these days.

Steel Battalion was like a 200 dollar game at retail.

But I've never paid collector prices. I always buy retail or cheaper.

But I have several games that are now worth several hundred.

Which isnt even the worst thing Ive sold in hindsight.

Sold mine recently for 90. Better to sell at a lower price to someone near you than lose more money by fees selling online.
Mas dicen, que en las dimensiones de nuestro ser... hay muchos detalles por conocer...
I bought a copy of Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2+ for $56. I sold it back for like $12. I also sold Conkers Bad Fur Day for N64 for $30, all the N64 Mario Party games, Smash Bros. Etc for way less than their actual value to a video game store because I was in a band and didn't have any money to make it to the next show/practice/what have you and refused to ask my parents for money.

I had a pretty good relationship with the local pawn shop too where I'd pawn my Fender Jazz for $80 to get through a weekend and make it to payday then pay them to get it back.

I don't miss that shit but I definitely miss having those games in my library just because.

I mean, with 12 years of inflation, you're probably down less than $50. Not a huge deal.

With case and manual. Not in a generic Gamestop case or anything of that sort (it drives me up a wall how many people dont hold on to/take care of those).

Extrapolate that loss to about 50-60 games across multiple systems, lol

The worst was PlayStation. I kept track of all I sold and the loss over time. PS was about 30 games, consisting of ones like Persona, Suikoden II, etc. I netted about $1k in cash then, and now they wouldve been worth $4k.

Ive managed to repurchase the bulk of what I sold for other systems. Other than the PS, the only ones I need to rebuy are TP, SSBM, and PM:TTYD on GC and E.V.O. on the SNES. Not sure when, if ever, Ill get to repurchasing the PS losses, but thats going to be quite the hit whenever I do.

Similar to stocks I sold in the past, the lesson was never sell.

We were down to one income at the time and I wasnt making a ton of money, so it seemed like the only option then. In hindsight, it wouldve been better to take out some loans or use credit cards to get through that time. Oh well.

Honestly, yes if you have the money. It's definitely a unique gaming experience. The campaign starts off really slow and might seem dated by now but once you start getting better mechs to pilot, things start flowing much better. I think I ended up selling it on eBay for the same price I bought it for because it was sort of a collector's item by that time and mine was still in decent shape.

There's a sequel that was online only PvP but I'm guessing there's probably little to no one still active.
Buffalo Bills
Never spent more than 69.99 on a game unless you include DLC.

I always wanted an EarthBound cart (and strategy guide) though. Doesnt have to be sealed in box or anything. Or maybe just the cart. Still hella expensive though.

If we are counting collector's editions then tales of arise's is probably the highest I ever paid for a single game since it costed 199.99.

Either that or star ocean 2 R's collector's edition from square-enix website. That one might have been 249.99 (Ah NM, this one was 199.99 also).

$100 for multiple games. i know the old call of duty games i'd be with the season pass so think those were like $100. i bought some collectors editions. i got the one for horizon forbidden west but it was half off. so wanna say i only paid $100 for it. don't think any has really been more than that.

actually i bought the tony hawk collectors edition with the skateboard but turned out it was only the deck and you had to buy the trucks and wheels for it still. not sure how much that one cost but i preordered that.

if we include rockband and guitar hero then like $200? i forget what the original rock band full band set cost or the rock band 4 full band set was. i also have the i believe it was rockband 3 that came with the pro guitar. so whatever of those 3 that cost the most was the most i spent but that's accessories and not just the game so different category.

All these years and it's still my favorite game of all time.

I still actually have all my different versions of PSO with the exception of the original episode 1 and 2 on the gamecube. I got the plus version of episode 1 and 2 gamecube in it's place. (Which costed me like 60 something dollars off ebay about a decade ago).

I remember buying a copy of Harvest Moon 64 in 1999 for about $90 (Canadian) which is roughly $150 now. People bitch so much about modern price standardization and look at old ads where random shit used to cost like $30 or whatever and don't realize games could also cost way more.
I won't count Steel Battalion or anything with a shop where I just bought over years to some insane total.

In the late 90's there was a local shop that sold some imports, they were generally just at or over $100 dollars for Saturn and PS1 games. I bought enough that I'm sure several were up there.
I've never spent over $60. Last time I even spent that much was '09.

Kinda dumb when you can just wait a bit.

Of course, waiting can backfire, but on the other hand it's not like I'm running out of games to play. And hell, they'll remaster it anyway.

Yeah. Barring one exception Silent Hill 2 remake to support the series), I never by them for $60. Gaming really is a relatively cheap hobby, especially for the time per dollar spent, if youre willing to be the slightest bit patient.
