I disagree. Gi-hun is trying to stop the games. That involves confronting the rich people to stop their involvement. Showing them gives us a face for Gi-hun to hunt down, and makes reaching them seem like an achievable goal. Otherwise, they come off as some untouchable ethereal shadow creatures and become background/side plot characters instead of the main goal.
I'm pretty sure stopping the games itself are his main goal, we have no idea what the involvement of the rich bettors are beyond they help fund it. It's also pretty telling that this is a much bigger feat than he realized, that the amount of guards and people they have is massive so this is not going to be him just walking in with 10 people with guns, and easily handling everyone. Shit, even with infinite ammo in the first part they likely get overrun eventually it felt like guys in pink suits were everywhere.
This also might as well be final season part 1 and 2 they are calling it season 2 and 3 but season 2 really feels about 50-60% of the events that we would see in a season.
The fact that they were filmed together also makes it seem like Netflix wanted it in two parts just to draw this out more and get potentially more subs or people staying subbed for the final part.
