I love Fromsoft, but every time I try to play DS1 I just cannot get into it for the life of me. Elden Ring? Absolute banger. Bloodborne? Certified hood classic. Demons Souls? Goated.

But for whatever reason I just find DS1 so boring. I just cant get into the world

I like it, but it's probably tied with DS2 for being my least favorite one.

after you get the Lord Vessel , the game's momentum takes a notable dip.

Dark Souls 2 is better anyway

Love it, still think its the best.
Currently playing: Nothing
I hated it at first, but I loved Demons.

A lot of this was because the game performed like hot garbage.

Then I got the remaster and realized it was brilliant.

I played Bloodborne, then Sekiro, then DS1, so yes. DS1 is incredibly janky in comparison, and not being able to teleport until the end of the game is a huge downside IMO . I still had fun with it, but it!s the only one of the three I dont have all achievements in (mainly because Im OCD and wanted to max out all armor before I lost access to everything in NG+, and I got tired of farming Twinkling Titanite).

DS1 is the FromSoftware game I *like* most, but I haven't played all of the Armored Core games, yet.

Blasphemy!
It's the second best one after Demon's Souls, but I won't hate you for disliking it.

Openly.
I dont agree but youre entitled to your opinion.
I am the topic killer. I kill topics.
From the asylum thru Anor Londo its a perfect game.

Then you have to go thru two terrible areas, New Londo and Lost Izalith which just suck. However, small redemption in that you get the awesome wolf boss to get to the abyss.

Honestly, they should have made those levels way shorter with boss battles early on.

It's way outclassed by now. I replayed it twice recently, absolutely demolished everything (except that piece of shit Bed of Chaos), and that combined with me hating how movement feels and the entire end-game except Duke's left a bad taste in my mouth.

I always liked DS2 more anyway.

Great run before fumbling at the goal line.

DS1 has always been overrated. The back 40% of it tops out at mediocre and has the lowest lows of the entire series, while most of the other sections leading up to it are good but not particularly better than the rest of the series.

Plus, let's be real, there are tons of encounters and jank in DS1 that if they were in DS2 would be constantly cited against it. I can only imagine how much rage Sen's would get if it was in DS2, and it's still one of the best areas they've made.

Not a single lie detected

Dark Souls 2 definitely fumbled some things but I'll usually choose to go back to play 2 over 1

The interconnected levels in the first half of the game are *chef's kiss*
Bloodborne has that element too, but you can still teleport from the start. Pass.

It's definitely got some goof ball stuff. I forgot you stand still to chug. I liked being able to walking while using flask in DS3 that I just forgot you don't move in DS1. Also the whole extra frames of animation on whiff makes trying UGS kind of bothersome.

Beyond that it's how specific areas are definitely meant for you to comeback later. Basically the best sequence is Undead Burg - Depths - Catacombs - Blighttown - Sen's Fortress - Anor Londo ... etc. But the game will give you a Master Key as a starter item and you can completely break this sequence and end up like in the Great Hollow with Curse Basiliks.

Launch Dark Souls used to STACK CURSE as in it would HALF your HP up to 4(!) times. It was possible to get Cursed multiple times, with less souls per enemy, with less purchasable or even droppable Homeward Bones... with the Undead Merchant NOT having a Purging Stone.

I get it.

It's tough to go back to some games when quality of life improvements in the sequels have made them much more playable.

DS1 is a very slow game. You don't get to warp to Bonfires until you're halfway through the game.

But the world design in DS1 is second to none. It's the absolute gold standard of exploration in a semi open world game.

I wish I could recapture the feeling of playing that game again for the first time. Exploring a corridor that flows into an entirely new area, exploring that area and coming on a branching path that loops you around to a place you've already been, opening up a shortcut to an area that you had no idea existed.

It also is the best of the series, imho, for new playthroughs. Deciding your path through the game based on the build you want to create in your next run is so rewarding. It's part and parcel with the world design. Everything is stacked on each other in such interesting ways that your runs flow so organically.

Take the complete opposite design with Elden Ring where new runs means trapsing through a very pretty, but very empty open world on your subsequent playthroughs. You realize that most of the world contains absolutely nothing so you're just running past shit on torrent for like 2 hours collecting the infinity stones of whatever build you're working on.

Started a new playthrough and damn it I changed my mind, this shit is peak. Idk what it is, but I just had the ah ha moment. The way everything loops back to Firelink Shrine is brilliant. Youre going down some random pathway unsure of where you are and then you hear the music kick in and you think no fucking way.

Im now sitting here at work with Firelink Shrine as my computer wallpaper with the theme playing on a 10 hour loop and Im just itching to get through the day and play more tonight

Please disregard my previous shit take

Dark souls 1 is good, but definitely hasn't aged well. it is a touch janky now, needed better teleportation options earlier and....yeah, through Anor Londo is amazing but Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith suck, and the Bed of Chaos is just the worst.

That said, it's really rescued by a fantastic DLC. Artorias of the Abyss is terrific.

PvP is legitimately garbage though. The worst most nonsense system, 1 frame backstab detection, Chaos getting extra damage from having 10 Humanity so people make shit like +4-+5 Chaos Halberd wearing the Hornet ring dodging behind you while not locked on so they can turn around and immediately back stab you after dodging forward. And because elements don't scale with stats you just min-spec your stats for equip, get it to +4 or whatever, get 10 humanity from rats or skeleton babies or by duping or whatever and dump 20 or so levels in End and the rest in Vitality until you hit like level 80 and now even if they have 450AR you can tank like 4 hits but you drain 1100 HP in a single backstab because From Software had horrible testers and Miyazaki was busy getting drunk or something.

Imagine thinking about making arena duels in Remastered for this stupid fucked up unbalanced PvP system. Kind of not surprising 4chan misanthropes and nihilists love playing Dark Souls online just to harass people.

Backstab having a delayed animation is the best thing From Software ever did for the series.

Congrats! You are now past the hardest non dlc boss in the game.

I couldn't get into it either. There were some things I liked, particularly the intertwined map, but eventually I just had to accept that I wasn't having fun playing it and moved on to something else

It only took a couple tries but to be fair my weapon is ridiculously OP lol. I got lucky and got the black knight sword from the first knight in Undead Burg

Sif and Quelaag both took me more tries
