This looks like a hidden gem. It's an RPG with cool character designs and developers behind Wild Arms. The only caveat is that it's completely controlled with the touch screen like the Zelda games, with trackball-style overworld controls.

To be fair, there's a book in the series where a literal army of little girls goes Battle of Helm's Deep and lays siege to Oz. If that doesn't scream RPG, I don't know what does.

Yeah I've seen someone say in the comments that a lot of people forget that it's a series rather than just the one tale about Dorothy. If this game took off instead of being forgotten I bet they could've made more RPGs set in the land of Oz based on those other stories.

I remember reading about it but I thought the fake trackball things sounded awful.
Want some rye? 'Course ya do!
Yeah the trackball thing is super annoying when I mapped out the game. I'm trying to remember if it was better or worse when I was using my mouse to move the trackball lol.

We'll see if Wicked improves the franchise's popularity. I've always said a full-on big budget remake of the Wizard of Oz could be huge, and lead to adapting the other books.

I have a Japanese copy. It's alright. Definitely not anywhere near a list of must play DS RPGs.

Does it have an option to play on English?

I cant find any English copies on eBay (aside from one $200 one lol)

Not sure. My guess would be probably not but I never checked. I could dig it out tonight and see.

I'm kind of surprised The Wizard of Oz isn't used in more video games since its under the public domain. Then again, it seems like almost every-time its used it becomes a big flop. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. was a game based on American folklore and literature made by Intelligent Systems and it features The 4 main characters from the Wizard of Oz and a level in The Emerald City. The game was probably one of Nintendo's biggest commercial flops ever.

The DS cost too damn much. Too many good RPGs went there to be forgotten.
