The problem is that when the show started it was loosely based on that meme theory that Daneil was the actual bad guy in the first Karate Kid movie. That's why Johhny was the sympathetic loser and Daniel was the arrogant asshole in the first season. There was a tongue-in-cheek sense of fun about it.
But yeah that concept didn't last too long and now here we are. All out brawl at a televised international karate tournament that ends with a kid dead. It's all just super serious deadly melodrama now.
A good thing it's finally ending after a few more eps., because I mean c'mon.
