Seeing blistr's result made me realize the tactical mistake I made
Next time I get 3 off the bat I should be able to solve it much faster, would have gotten it in 2 this time around (by luck) if I started prioritizing verifying the current colors by doubling immediately from left to right (I usually pick edge pairs first)

I know there is a page that shows Your Stats but it only counts the stats for codes completed on the day theyre released. It doesnt count the stats for Archived codes that youve completed.

So, Ive been keeping track of my own stats for the first 100 codes, just marking down the results in the Notes app as Ive worked my way through them for the past month.

I completed all 100 with no fails, and I complete the codes in 6.45 guesses on average. My average was an abysmal 7.4 after the first 25, but Ive managed to bring that way down using a strategy. Codes 61-80 were completed in 5.65 guesses, so Ive gotten a lot more efficient.

I have been absurdly lucky in my guesses and have not found a strategy. I think knowing how likely color repetitions are would make it easier to develop a strategy.

I found this on stack exchange where bull is a color in correct position. Cow is a color in wrong position. Replace digit with color.

My first step would be to identify 4 cows/bulls. This way we have all 4 digits, then we can worry about getting the order correct.
To identify 4 cows/bulls, we would first guess 4 random numbers. If we get lucky and cows + bulls = 0, then we could eliminate all 4 of these numbers. Otherwise, we would alter our guess one number at a time. Let's say we guessed with a, b, c, d, then we guess with a, b, c, e.
If cows + bulls goes down by 1 after the next guess, we can conclude that the number we removed (d) was a cow or bull and the new number (e) is not a cow or bull.
If cows + bulls doesn't change, then either both d and e are cows/bulls, or neither d nor e are cows/bulls. We can try another number (f) until we see a change, and draw a conclusion from there.
If cows + bulls goes up by 1 then we can conclude that e is a cow/bull and d is neither a cow nor bull.
We would continue this until we have all 4 numbers. Then we could try different arrangements, again one change at a time, to determine if we are getting closer or farther.

I just start with the first four colors and rotate until i've put every color in every position. That leaves four guesses left. its usually easy to deduce the pattern on the next guess from that point.

I feel like any algorithmical approach I take works but I end up with higher guesses usually. If I wing it, I can get lower guesses but I feel bad whenever Im at attempt 5 or higher
