Apparently if they sink in water they're still good, or so says the internet.

Am I right to be skeptical here?

Toss them.

If they're out of date, toss them into the trash.

Yep, this right here. I've personally had eggs still be totally fine over a month after the printed expiration/best buy date.

What year?

Ive used eggs that were many, many months past their expiration. Youll know if an egg is bad. Crack it in its own cup to test before mixing with anything else.

I'd eat eggs maybe 2 weeks after their expiration date. Ive had some at about a month after and yah.....regret it.

I've never heard of the water trick before but I do know that eggs are still good for quite a while after the date on the carton.

I'd still eat eggs from Oct. 1.
Save for your doomed future
i am telling u with 100% certainty that the water trick is legit

This. Weve used eggs multiple months out of date and had zero issues. We dont usually even bother with the water trick. Just crack them into a bowl. If theyre bad, youll know it.

float trick is the standard way to check but ultimately if you don't think they're safe to eat they're yours to toss
Why not go all in?
I wouldn't trust them. Eggs, even with inflation, still aren't so expensive that I'd not rather just replace them with fresher ones

This is why I dont eat my fathers food. He uses way out of date stuff. He made some homemade sauerkraut last week. That is already a sus food to be honest. I think he used bay leaves 5-7 years old. I said nope. I've told him a few times if you do tell me.when I cook its new or recent and its only used for that purpose and that purpose only.

Shelf life isn't equal to fridge life.
Expiration dates should only ever be used as an estimate. I've had stuff go bad before even getting to the expiration date, and I've had stuff be fine long past it. In the case of eggs, I don't even pay attention to the expiration date. As other people have said, it is pretty obvious when they are bad.

Dairy vs eggs, not the same. I wouldn't taste the batter if he was making cookies with them but if they pass the water test, if they're fully cooked, it'll be fine.
