Even without how poorly it is created, I dont understand who this supposedly appealed to.
Huh, you just informed me that Until Dawn was remade.

Why the **** would they remake a game that came out in 2015... ?
On va les avoir.

I might pop in the PS4 version in my PS5 before Halloween

Out of all the PS Remasters that look worse than the original version, I think this might be the winner.

Not really a surprise, and I think everyone other than Sony could see this coming - the original still holds up graphically (and arguably looks better), is available for a cheaper price (at least physically, I believe they've pulled the original digitally which is a dick move), and has literally been given away free to PlayStation players through PSPlus.

The target audience for this on console (I get that its main raison d'etre would appear to be the PC version) is pretty much "people who are interested in the game but have only very recently come over to PlayStation so missed when it was free and still haven't bought it in the mean time, and who have digital only systems so can't get the cheaper original" which... feels niche to say the least.

Couple that with the fact that the brainstorming session behind the remake seemed to be "What if we take [insert literally any aspect of the original game] and make it dogshit?", and the writing was well and truly on the wall.

Just a baffling decision to sink big money and dev time into making this, really.

Haha very fitting for this.
Narutaki was right. This is all Decade's fault.
did the original game even do particularly well to begin with I can't imagine the "game that's basically a movie with decision points" niche is particularly large

choosing to remake it, now, and apparently worse, is very baffling
Why not go all in?

It's wild how disastrous this remake was. It's not even a pointless remaster like TLoU or Horizon, it intentionally made everything about the game worse.

Because Sony decided to delist the original game.
...before releasing the remake.
Anyway, 9 years?
How long was it until they released the Last of Us Remake?

As someone who just started playing the original one for the first time not long ago, it still holds up graphically. I'm not a fan of the fixed camera aspect but other than that, this game did not need any kind of remake.

Games have been remake far quicker that that.

Resident Evil came out in 1996 and was remade in 2002. Likewise with metal Gear Solid being being released in 1998 and remade in 2004.

Yes I realize we were taking about a much larger graphical leap back then between generations.

Yeah, I was going to chime in earlier about those remakes but realized that the graphical improvements were so vast that the remakes were justified, whereas Until Dawn's graphics are not.

There's also Super Mario All Stars for the SNES, which came out in 1993, and has remakes/remasters of games ranging from 5 - 8 years difference on it.
Without truth, there is nothing.
Hopefully this doesn't impact the sequel

It has a myriad of technical issues like crashes and bugs. The lighting was changed to look brighter, and doesn't have the dark atmosphere. They also changed music in some scenes - either adding music to scenes that didn't have any or took out music for the ones that did.

It also now has an over-the-shoulder viewpoint instead of being a fixed camera, and the collectible totems now require you to do an arbitrary shape-moving minigame to be able to use them.

I knew they were remaking it. But I thought they had just started working on it. Had no idea it was out.

It's amazing that they had the balls to charge $60 for the remake AND require you to link it to a PS+ account for no reason after Helldivers 2 proved that absolutely nobody wants to do that
Like, yeah, I don't understand who this remake was for. As soon as I saw the remake, I'm like, "this looks like ass." I bought the original physical version to play on my PS5. It cost me $13 CAD. Get fucked, Sony.

The baffling decision to me is not releasing on Xbox. That's an entire market who didn't get to play if they didn't have a PS3 when it released

Love Until Dawn, so it kinda makes me sad, but fuck it looks worse. Just an awful trend of just "remastering" everything for no good reason. The good ones are great. But then there's this.

Remaking PS4 games for PS5 just feels like a colossal waste of time and money. Like, there's not even that much of a difference between generations at this point.

Most pointless remaster of all time. They gave the game away for free during the PS5's launch window.

I think I'm at the fuck Sony stage due to them ignoring Bloodborne for so long.
Never forgive, never forget: The Lakers gave up Caruso, KCP, Harrell, Kuzma and Schroder's bird rights for Russell Westbrook.
Good, any remaster or remake that's not Bloodborne needs to flop for the good of the world.
