It seems like if Trump can get away with it, it allows other skeevy people to get away with their crimes. Those who are at the top have absolutely gotten their by exploitation and other unsavory ways. They also have most likely used their power to do questionable at best things. By forgiving Trump, they have improved their chances of also avoiding consequences for similar actions.
