Here's the theory:

The Heritage Foundation (and it's ilk) REALLY like JD Vance and think he is the perfect encapsulation of Project 2025 and the Christo-Fascist movement. As such, their plan (if Trump wins) is to immediately invoke the 25th Amendment, declaring Trump unfit for office. They already have people in place for this to happen (Mike Johnson, etc.)

The result: President Vance/Vice President Johnson

Well?

I'm giving it a solid 7. I think it could happen, but I don't know that the GOP is organized well enough to pull it off.

It does explain, however, why it's rumored that Trump wants to replace Vance with RFK Jr....

Without Trump there is no party. So I doubt it.
If it were ever true, Vance is such a catastrophe as a public figure that they must be having second thoughts.

Lazy old Trump would be still a better vehicle for them. And his cult won't stand for a Brutus act.

He'd be Dubya to Mike Johnson's Dick Cheney

This. It's a personality cult. Vance is not charismatic enough to take over from Trump. If they want any change at getting an authoritarian regime up and running that Vance could then later take over, they need Trump around for a long time.

If they picked literally anyone but Vance it'd be believable

It was reported by the NYT in 2016 that Trump Jr. asked John Kasich to be his father's VP, telling him he'd be in charge of both foreign and domestic policy. When asked by Kasich what Trump would be doing, Jr responded with "making America great again."

If true - and I believe it is - it demonstrates how little Trump cares about anything other than grifting people out of their money and playing golf. There's no reason Vance couldn't enact Project 2025 while Trump dicked around as usual.
Immediate 25th Amendment makes no sense unless they have the mechanisms in place to also deal with a pissed off Trump base in addition to the unrest that will already be happening from everyone else. It makes much more sense for Trump to "pass peacefully" and for the base to rally around Vance during a period of mourning because "that's what Trump would have wanted".

Maybe not immediate, but the first time he does something that they can point to as "senile" or "dementia"

3/10. If Trump isn't there, the Republican party has little support. Trump is the face of the party, not Mike Johnson, not JD Vance, not Marjorie Taylor Greene. Without Trump, none of them matter.

If they oust Trump, they'll be called socialist, fascist, communist, marxists until the next election.

There wouldn't be a "next election"

Without Trump, there is no MAGA. He's the face of the movement, with him gone it'll fall apart.
I rate it a "they'll try this if it looks like it'll work but won't push the envelope too hard if it doesn't" out of 10.

There would if there's no backing for this current regime of JD Vance and Mike Johnson that Republicans did not ask for.

Remember, the fascist shit only works because nearly 100% of Republicans would be okay with Trump being President for life.

No need for a party if Dumbfuck gets in. It would show they have the pieces to rig already or wouldn't need him anymore as they are in position to rig it forever.

He served his main purpose. His only role would be to keep it the Trumpers as quiet as possible, but it isn't necessary.
Blah, blah, blah, and blah.
Why 25 him and risk pissing off pretty much everyone? Just poison his hamberders.
I apologize for nothing!
I voted 4. I do think they consider the 25th amendment, but are more willing to let things play out. They'd probably want a 4 year trump presidency that leads into an 8 year Vance presidency, but there's always the possibility of Trump getting impeached or disabled.
