Easily the best version of DBZ imo.

Which one?
Vegeta's sacrifice.

During their creator commentary for the Buu Bits, Kaiser and Lani said that the way they did it in the buu bits ("Bulma, Trunks, I do this for you. And yes, even you, Best Buddy") wasn't their original plan, and they took it "from a fan."

I wrote that idea, word for word, in a comment on their video when they announced they were canceling Bojack and ending the show. I thought of that joke yhe very first time I Jerard Goku call Vegeta "best buddy" on the show, and just sort of thew it out in a comment as something I regretted not getting to see them do, and how I imagined the joke going. And the comment got a ton of likes, including from them, and was top rated on that video for a while.

So I like to think they used my joke for the final version of the scene. Granted, I'm sure I'm not the only person who had that idea, or suggested it over the years. But i remember the big reaction when I posted it, and like to think I influenced something in a show Ive enjoyed since like the 9th grade, lol.

I thought FF7 Abridged really struggled for a while, but they did finally hit their stride. And then they stopped making them.
Yeah it seemed to be their most consistent series release wise. Definitely the easiest to edit and put out. I wish they could do something similar but most seem to have went their seperate ways which is understandable.

Its not so much that they just stopped making them. The series ended. They reached the end of the game

Wait, did they? Thats news to me. I thought they took a hiatus from it and never finished. Well damn, I have something to watch now.

Also I'm here to say SAO:Abridged is the better parody.

Dragonball was actually watchable and enjoyable on its own. SAO was not.

Agreed. The original premise was so cool and I wish the anime didn't use so many time skips to speed through the first arc.

considering the crap Toei has been shoveling out since DBZ, I'm glad Team Fourstar created something for the fans to love.

And what's funny, is that after the Toonami boom started to die down, most people started to lose interest in DBZ outside of the Boudokai games. TFS reinvigorated its popularity long enough for the games and Super to cement it permanently.

I really need to watch through the whole thing. I think there are some Namek episodes I didn't see. I love the Android and Cell arcs, where it gets a little more serious but is still a ton of fun. And gotta love the Canadian CC channel for more jokes.

If i remember right some of it was, that when Goku is talking to Gohan it say's 'Goku', but when Piccalo shows up and starts asking Gohan questions it say 'Gohan's Dad'.

Is great, but gets 1 episode a year if we're lucky. I know I'm gonna love the next episode but leaving us with that ep 17 ending for over a year...

Anyway, speaking of abridged series with big gaps between releases, Grimmjack's Goblin Slayer Abridged is pretty good too.
Dbza is top tier and always great for a watch.

But I have to say I Hellsing Ab might be my bigger favorite

I don't know how people can say it "stopped making jokes" when Cell exists.

What actually happened was that their writing evolved and became stronger. If they had kept the joke-a-second pace that they had in the first season, it would have become tiring to watch. But thankfully they realized that humor works better when given serious or mundane moments to play against, and started writing that way. This was also the point that their versions of the characters became better written as well.

It became less about overt pop culture humor, and became more referential to itself, the characters involved, and Dragon Ball itself. I highly suggest everybody go watch the creator commentaries they did last year, they really go in depth on their process and how the series and its humor evolved.
It was good, it did almost become a new dub it felt like at the end, but still kept the parody feeling. Just some scenes it is hard to make funny, some you have to play straight (Gohan going ssj2 is an example)

For me the first season was early internet humor, a time when dbz's biggest meme was the over 9000 joke. It was still finding its footing.

The second season was when it was pretty damn funny. Yeah there was some internet humor, but a lot of the nerd humor was great. Pretty much popularized the Goku bad-dad joke/Piccolo the father who stepped up etc.

Third season it became basically a full-fledged dub that was fantastic, heartfelt, and comedic all at once.

It's so perfect and the best way to experience dbz

Better than the original. Was absolutely worth the full year it took to release it. I still get goosebumps rewatching that scene and listening to Day of Fate.

Yep. And even in some of their more epic/serious moments, they found ways to inject humor in a way that didn't take away from the scene itself or shift the tone. For example, Goku's motivational speech while Gohan is beam struggling with Cell.

"See? I'm nowhere CLOSE to that strong yet "
I can see the viewpoints of some criticisms that they got too serious and preachy in their writing during Cell. If youre there for silly memes and then you have a semi-deconstruction of Goku and Gohans relationship, partially fueled by regret over their own bad dad Goku jokes, it could feel kind of weird.
The evolution of the series really shows the creators evolution from amateur comedians to people who know that real comedy comes in the moment, and to let the characters drive the story.

The final season is a really well made production all around.

I still think it is most appreciated when you did watch the original show first, though.

Over half the jokes are based on having already seen the original.

Tbf, not including the Saiyaman Saga, I think I've seen more DBZ movies/specials than normal episodes.

Most of my exposure to DBZ and its story came from Budokai 1, then Tenkaichi 2 cleared up p much everything as it was the most informative story mode at that time

Which worked out for me cuz I loathe the pacing of the normal episodes
Yeah I think the worst thing about Z is that neither variations hit that right balance. Original version has a lot of the excessive drag outs to keep from passing the manga.

Still wonder why they only did one filler story during the three year training for the Androids. That would have been the perfect time to slow down and have some done in ones if not exclusive sagas.

But the manga and Kai while faster paced, not so much on the slice of life or basically breathers. Even being more action oriented than The Hunt for the Dragon Balls up to the Piccolo Jr Saga, I don't think breather stuff would hurt at all.

Kind of a nice thing about the tournament stuff in the original even if the last two coincided with storylines. A bit of relaxing between the heavy stories and such.
