Had to say goodbye to my best little buddy, Link, yesterday. Been in my life for 8 years, but has recently had a couple of episodes of sudden bursts of sickness and after chasing up his issues with the vet - cardiac issues causing breathing difficulty and fluid build up in the lungs, it was decided that it would not be in his interests to keep him around as that would only ensure that he would suffer.

Rest in peace, Link.

It's hard when a family member passes, and I will refer to him as a family member as that's what he was. He wasn't a pet, he was family. While the link may be broken, know that he is heading to that great Hyrule in the sky.

this. i still grieve at times over my loss of the dog. i know getting another dog or cat would help but i'm not financially able or housing stable to get another one yet.

Poor little guy. :( It always sucks to have to make that decision, but you did the right thing. We hung on to my previous cat too long and I still feel guilty about it.

I'm sorry that it worked out that way for you, man. I can see why you'd want to give your cat a chance to pull through, they can be resilient little fighters. I've spent the past day wrestling with the decision we made and my head knows it was the rational decision, my heart feels like he had years in him still. He was only 8.

But he'd been sick a month before and fought tooth and nail to stay with us. He gave us an extra month but whatever struck him down the first time came back for him again. It really hurts to let him go but seeing him go through it again one more time, probably getting worse each time... he would have suffered. I'm trying to be at peace with the decision to let him go.

And thanks, everyone. I know there's a lot of love for pets on this board and y'all are right. He was family. I cared about my l'il Link as much as I would a brother. There might have been a time when I thought it was silly to care about a cat that much but the l'il monkey crawled his way into my heart and he's never going to leave.

Thanks. It's been a tough couple of days. Just been trying to remember the good times with my l'il Link and not get sad about it. Been much better at the first part of that than the second.

I appreciate all the well wishes. I'm not going to keep bumping this topic anymore as y'all have already extended so much kindness, comfort and support to me and I can't ask for more than that.

It's helped me a lot just to post some pictures of him, and at some point I hope I'll be able to look on them again without feeling pain over it, and that I'll feel the happiness that he brought me again.
