Gonna play this game for the first time but I heard its a buggy mess and has game-crashing bugs like you literally cannot finish this game. Have they fixed that or should I just spring for the steam version instead?
She took pity on me, horizontally, but most likely because of my band

They fixed the issue that was preventing you from finishing the game, plus a few other things. It's a fairly decent port, aside from the broken promises of the restored content patch that got canceled.

Overall, the port is fine. As stated, they fixed the bug that prevented players from completing the game (how that kind of glitch got past play testing is beyond me), so it's a perfectly serviceable way to play KOTOR 2. Any other bugs are likely bugs that existed in the original game already.

The worst part about that was the months and months of radio silence about the update.

I wish I knew exactly what the problem was with all of that. Aspyr announced the restored content patch at essentially the same time that they announced that the port was coming in general, so I have to assume they had the legality of it all mostly worked out beforehand if they were so confident as to announce them together like they did.
I would recommend the version on Steam. It has workshop support so it's easy to use the restored content mod.
Many Bothans died to bring you this post.
The restored content mod is pretty overrated, a lot of that stuff got cut for a good reason. Nar Shaddaa was already long enough, M4-78 is genuinely some of the worst material in either games, and the droid factory has some really boring and unbalanced fights.

Just about the only good stuff was the Battle of Khoonda and the Malachor cut content.
As the morning sun rises, my lingering memories fade. I no longer see your silhouette. It's too far gone into the haze.
Just get the PC version it runs on toasters. No reason to play any other version.

My condolences. Also I've seen both KOTOR games go down to about 3 bucks or so if you don't mind waiting.

Man, like half the ending was cut, entire storylines were left completely broken, and most of the crewmate dialogue and interactions with each other were gone.

I agree M478 was garbage. But the game is straight up incomplete without the mod. The story and characters lose a ton of their richness, which is literally what the game is all about.
Doesn't take a lot of brains to be a good fighter.
