I never really understood why everyone switched over to using Chrome and developing for it. Well, I guess we found out why that was a horrible decision.

Just glad we still have Firefox. I've been using it forever.
Many Bothans died to bring you this post.
Been using Firefox since it was just Mozilla. It continues to be the correct choice.

Because Chrome was much faster at the time it came out than IE or firefox, and in a world where webpages simply not really loading well or fast was still an issue, it mattered and people switched. After making the switch, people never looked back. Chrome was super good for most of its life, so it was irrelevant.

Also, it comes on Pixel phones and people have their laptops, desktops, and phones synced to use the same passwords, card info, etc.

Its a relatively new thing that google is absolutely running wild ruining it in every way.
Chrome sucks anyway
Ugh... is this a precursor to google saying youtube will only work on chrome or something?
Yeah if/when that happens I'll go back to Firefox. Youtube is unwatchable with ads.

Chrome was never good and only loaded so much faster at first because it hogged all the RAM. It was only the "most widely used" browser because it became the default browser for Android.

I switched from Firefox to Chrome 10 years ago because I thought Firefox ran like dogshit

Once this happens (and I am hoping Firefox having improved since then) i'll switch to Firefox

These company only target user that wants to use their website, but they never target these companies that has bad intentions with their ads. They can be as misleading as they want, yet no one does nothing about it. To make it worse some website pretends to have a block function, when in reality it doesn't do anything to the ads since it just returns.

This is revisionist history. Chrome was more widely used on desktop and has been for a very long time. It was more widely used before most people even had a smart phone.
I saw this coming a mile away.

It wasn't until 2011 when Chrome surpassed IE and Firefox in usage. Right about the time smartphones became mainstream.

There is a good possibility that if it somehow isn't disabled, they'll just outright ban peoples accounts for using Adblocker. That's the next logical step for this adblock war.

Not really, it took alot longer for most people to get a smart phone. It wasn't until 2016 when your average person was really using the smartphone for most browsing. In 2011, almost 100% of internet traffic was still through desktop.

I really hope that doesn't happen. Why should users get punished, when ads are 100% out of control.
Why is it that the one doing these horrible and misleading ads doesn't get punished at all, why are we forced to see them.

Go to any website = fake ads
Play mobile phone game = fake ads
Go to a folder on a mobile phone = fake games and games that are involved in fake ads

Someone said this about Hero Wars:
https://support.google.com/admanager/thread/282741520/request-to-block-hero-wars-ads-on-youtube?hl=en

Request to Block Hero Wars Ads on YouTube

Misleading Content : The Hero Wars ads present a gameplay experience that is far removed from reality. They promise epic battles, grand quests, and heroic feats, but the actual game falls short of these claims.
Inadequate Moderation : YouTube, as a responsible platform, should prioritize ad moderation. Unfortunately, Hero Wars ads slip through the cracks, bombarding us with false promises and exaggerated visuals.
Inappropriate for All Audiences : These ads are not only misleading but also inappropriate for viewers of all ages. Their sexually suggestive content is unacceptable, especially considering that many young users frequent YouTube.
Lack of Permanent Blocking Option : Users have no way to permanently block these ads. We need a solution that ensures a cleaner, more enjoyable viewing experience.

Our Request :
Immediate Action : We urge YouTube to take immediate action by intensifying ad moderation. Hero Wars ads should align with the actual game content.
Transparent Communication : Nexter, the company behind Hero Wars, must be transparent about their advertising practices. Misleading ads harm both users and the brands reputation.
Age-Appropriate Content : Hero Wars ads should be suitable for all audiences. Anything sexually explicit or misleading should be promptly removed.
Permanent Blocking Option : Implement a feature that allows users to permanently block specific ads. This would empower us to curate our viewing experience effectively.

No matter how much people complain about it to Google/Youtube, they don't do anything about it. So they don't want to punish these companies with their misleading ads, but they want to punish users for using software to block ads.

There's a good possibility that if you claim something might happen, it's guaranteed not to happen.

Youtubers can get into trouble if they break their rules, especially with copyright. But companies that breaks the rules with their adverts nothing happens to them.

That is 100% not fair.

Because those companies give Google lots of money to run their ads and keep the platform afloat, while Youtubers and viewers are money-sinks for Google.

I'm not defending or excusing it, but that's just how they see it.

Chrome is upgrading to support Manifest v3 instead of v2, which is what uBO is on. Just a fyi for people not looking at the article.

Without those YouTubers they would have way less traffic for advertisers to begin with.
