but was the guy actually bald?
Tbh one thing that always weirded me out even as a deeply religious kid was the inconsistency of God's agency.

This passage, and Isaac getting tricked into blessing Jacob, made it seem like God is just some magic entity that you could summon or control, which went against what we were usually taught. >_>

My pastor, when I was a youth in a very Southern Baptist community, said that this story was metaphorical to always honor your parents, teachers, pastors, etc (basically anyone older than you) and not to make fun of them or God will punish you in the worst ways possible. It was a funny as shit story then and it's still funny as shit now lol.

Depending on which bible and translation you read, it was either bald or receding hairline. Also depending on which bible version and translation you read, it's either young men or young boys. Either way, it still makes this verse messed up/hilarious.

I always loved how stories that are batshit insane are totally metaphorical unless they go along with the personal beliefs of the pastor or whoever else is interpreting it in which case they're literal.
The commercial says that Church isn't for perfect people, I guess that's why I'm an atheist.
Good wouldn't do that bc he values free will

To be fair, it's either that or

"God works in uh... mysterious ways."

This phenomena was ultimately my biggest bridge to me becoming an eventual Atheist. For a supposedly all omnipotent being as God, why would he use one of the most ineffective ways (a book) to get his message across, a way that can be interpreted in a bajillion ways (and ultimately is why we have about thousands of different Christian denominations in general). I just remembered my sunday school where our teacher was showing us how the Catholic Church corrupted the religion and how the Southern Baptists job was to restore the religion, it just made me realize just how hypocritical and nonsense it all ways.

What did it for me was I decided to read the bible, was an atheist after that.

For me it's the part in the bible where the medium summoned Samuel's spirit for Saul.

Being a young kid at the time, I assumed Samuel would be in heaven with god or whatever. So for his spirit to be so easily snatched from heaven to talk to Saul doesn't seem very secure.

I asked my Sunday school teacher about this and she said god allowed it for this once.

While her answer didn't make me go full atheist on the spot, it did plant the seed.

I was raised catholic and they say the reverse. That protestants corrupted the catholic teachings

Catholics believe that they are the original and true church that Jesus intended

Remember when God got mad and made everyone wander in the desert for 40 years because Moses sent scouts into the Promised Land and they came back and told him that it didn't really seem as neat as it was hyped up to be?

There is a part I think where the Hebrews are fighting an enemy army, and as long as Moses has his arms in the air, the Hebrews are winning. When he gets tired and his arms go down, the Hebrews get their asses kicked. I think people end up holding up his arms for him
