I'll take this opportunity to trash the bar exam as I very much enjoy doing so.
The bulk of the test does not, in any feasible way, measure one's minimum competency as an attorney.
I do not know the contents of California's bar exam
, but the Uniform Bar Exam is, with the exception of the Multistate Performance Test part, absolutely worthless for anything other than testing one's ability to study and take a test. Any number of factors can impact the performance on any of the four three hour blocks.
I passed the bar on my first go. I know adept attorneys who took it three times before passing. It's a dreadful gatekeeping tool, and the profession needs to do better.
I know a few attorneys, and they've all said it is one of the toughest. If you can pass it, you can even practice law without a degree. Kim Kardashian's been trying to pass it about 5 years now.
