The highs are worth it.

Yes. I even think parts of modern Trek are good.

I think I've enjoyed every trek show, minus Discovery.

Yes.

If you remember watching TV in the 70s, start with TOS
If you remember watching TV in the 90s, start with TNG
Otherwise start with SNW

Or just start with TOS.
I apologize for nothing!
I really like the idea of generational ships and while Star Trek isn't that it does come close to scratching that itch.

Yes, although

Star Wars has more, and Trek has been outclassed by other series...

Alien, for example, is a great space scifi thing (especially if you include Blade Runner, Predator, etc)
I'm about to start from og on up. We'll see how long I last lol.
Italian, French, German.
  1. TNG
  2. TOS
  3. DS9
  4. Voyager
Haven't seen enough of the others to rank them.
Insert some witty line here
I've only watch Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and voyager. Next Gen is definitely worth it. That and X-Files are the pinnacle of 90s sci-fi tv, imo.

That's a broad question so i said meh. I'd recommend other shows before then but it all depends on what the viewer wants.
Star Trek is a great show and has many forms. If you want scifi, then yes i recommend it.

Which version of Star Trek are you talking about? Old Trek, sure. Anything post reboot is pretty much garbage.
of course!

original, TNG, voyager are all amazing. The others? Depends on the person.

I'd say Yes. Easily.

With it being a serialised TV format, mainly, it's got it's fair share of ups and downs, but there's enough good quality in the better episodes to justify giving it a watch.

Also, each era of the show tends to have a very distinct feel to it, and it helps keep the show worth watching if you do decide to stick with it. Original, TNG, DS9 and Voyager are all quite different do each other and explore different aspects of life in space.

I haven't watched anything after Voyager, aside from the movies, so I didn't list anything after.

I loved the original series and TNG.

DS9 was a truck stop in space. Enterprise boldly gone, while DS9 boldly sat there waiting.

At first I thought I liked Voyager, but into season 2 (I think) I found out I was wrong.
I'm not here for friends. I'm here for the truth to the best of my knowledge of it, even if it's not what people want to hear.
I haven't seen TOS or much of the newer stuff, but DS9 and TNG are absolutely worth watching.

Star Trek is one of the greatest TV/movie franchises ever.

I have been a Trekkie since I first watched it in 1986.

My favourite series is The Original Series. Least favourite is Deep Space Nine. I do not acknowledge the existence of those streaming only series. For me Star Trek ended in 2005 with the cancellation of Enterprise.

So yes Star Trek is very much getting into.

If it's Next Generation and DS9 then yes! First two season of Picard were pretty bad but 3 was better. Lower Decks was surprisingly good. As you can see modern Trek is mostly rough.

Absofuckinglutely. I'd say watch all of it except the dumpster fire that is Discovery. It's complete trash. Sonequa Martin-Green sucks in it. He performance reminded me of her role in Once Upon a Time and it was super bad then too. Stange New Worlds is amazing and so is Lower Decks.

yes. most of them ^_^.

I also recommend Battlestar Galactica. one of my alltime favs. Great cast and performances. darker and less 'clean' than Trek.

oh and Stargate SG-1 . INDEEEED

TNG and DS9 are goat level

TOS is good, but it's ancient tv

The rest are decent except for Discovery, tho some people seem to like it ( watch The Orville instead )

I would like to point out that Enterprise rips apart all those streaming only series. Oh look Star Trek has become such TV poison that no TV channel wants a bar of it now.

Utterly true story for everyone, My late mother who had been watching Star Trek since it first came to Britain in 1969 and who got me into it had absolutely zero interest in Discovery. She had seen everything to do with Star Trek including the Abram movies so when she knocks something back then you will know it is bad.

Star Trek Picard. Oh look lets make a series based on the worst Star Trek Captain ever. Lets all have them now smoking like chimneys and swearing to make it look all "edgy"! Pathetic.

Discovery should be burned at the steak at what they did to the Klingons!

So my recommendation to any new fans is to just stick to The Original Series - Star Trek Enterprise and forget that those streaming series exist.

I think I used to watch it when I was a kid with my mom and yea I enjoyed it quite a bit at the time

idunno if Id like it now tho tbh

It's meh

A lot of it doesn't hold up anymore

Because the production qualities are so out dated and the stories have been riffed so many times by every other show in existence
Watch these

Star Trek II Wrath of Khan
Star Trek Voyage Home
Star Trek Generations
Star Trek First Contact

That's about all you need and you get the entire franchise summed up

I've never understood this. You know you are allowed to like various things and not just one right? Like you can like Star Wars AND Star Trek?

Star Trek, while a few stinker episodes here and there (or whole seasons. I skip all of season 1 and most of 2 for TNG), ST is a phenomenal IP.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
I thought I loved Star Trek then just realized I only really really loved DS9.

But man I really really love DS9

I started with TOS a decade or so ago, and loved it. Watched TNG after that, and it's even better.

I haven't watched any more for some reason.
...I think I'm done here...

Yes, it's a great franchise. Not every episode/movie is good and the franchise has had its ups and downs. But at it's best it's great science fiction storytelling with terrific characters and a hopeful outlook for what humanity can be.

TOS is a fine entry point if you're not going to be too put off by watching an almost 60 year old show. There's definitely a lot about it that's dated but for the most part I think the writing and the performances hold up.

If you want to start with 90's Trek, TNG is the best place to start and probably with season 3 since the first couple of seasons are pretty rough.

If you want to start with a modern Trek show go with Strange New Worlds.

TOS can be a chore to start with, but the original cast movies are a good place to start (Wrath of Khan is the best). Then go TNG and DS9 for the best one-two sci-fi TV series punch in history, watch the TNG movies, and feel free to expand from there if you so desire.

My hot take is that while it has some good moments, Voyager was a massive miss.

And spoilers, but mandatory Voyager post:

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.
I hate to say it but watch Discovery but only because of Michelle Yeoh. She did absolutely amazing and there's a movie coming out that revolves around her character in Discovery. That movie won't make sense unless you watch Discovery

Yeah, I love Star Trek

TNG and DS9 are probably objectively "the best" but TOS has an undeniable charm factor which always weighs heavily when I rank things

Discovery gets more hate than it deserves. I'd never rank it among the best Trek shows but it's still pretty good overall. Most of the bad is contained in season 1 and it gets better after that.

The 3rd season was so damn predictable. It was so boring. I love Trek but I was literally dreading watching any episode when they were released. The only good parts were the ones that involved mirror Georgiou

Avoid "Spock's Brain," "The Omega Glory," "Turnabout Intruder," and "The Way to Eden" in the original series. (Spock's Brain and Way to Eden are generally agreed to be the absolute worst ones)

If you watch Voyager, then absolutely avoid The Fight and Threshold. Also avoid Spiritfolk, Fair Haven, and Tattoo (explains Chakotay's tattoo, but it's pretty offensive by today's standards *it was offensive even by the standards of the day*. FYI, the actor for Chakotay is a Mestizo who plays a *presumably Peruvian* indigenous person, and it's a lot worse than it sounds hint: Peru is where the Nazca Lines are.)

For TNG, absolutely avoid Shades of Gray and Sub Rosa. Most people including me agree that Masks, The Child, and Man of the People suck. Code of Honor is really bad as well; its only redeeming feature is getting to see Tasha in a duel (if you're a big Tasha fan like I am)
