the first "Popular user-defined tags for this product" on Steam is "Fox", and i have no idea what that's supposed to mean
there's a fox creature that you're friends with

I've seen a bunch of racist comments, going on about "Sweet Baby Inc." whenever I look into it.

Yea, mostly what I've seen is the usual suspects screeching about the fact the lead is a black woman.

That's any game now rhat includes a female or non-white character.

It is impossible to live in the past, difficult to live in the present, and a waste to live in the future.
(He/Him).
I intend to play it but this week has been kinda heavily loaded with game releases

It is because it has a woman of color as the main character and everyone is racist and sexist.

I saw a quick trailer of it and I wasn't very interested. a Lot of the combat shown off consisted of enemies being popped into the air and the MC shooting them.

I already ain't big on gun combat, but that seemed very simplistic at that. Also my backlog is huge.

No one has heard of Helldivers 2 either. Sometimes things just... happen.

gave it a shot now, my first impressions are:

-Areas of the game's design so far don't feel fully cooked, there's systems here that don't mesh well and I can't tell if that's by design or a case of missing upgrades.
-Control feels...weird. Greasy, if that makes sense? Which is bad for this type of game
-Calling it a "Souls-like/Souls-*lite*" does the game a disservice: It shares more with story-heavy corridor brawlers like God of War or I guess Horizon than with souls games (unless we're just going "bonfires and a dodge roll is soulslike" in which case I suppose both of those are soulslikes too)
-Complaints about the MC could probably be resolved if they put some of the opening dialogue into more thoroughly establishing the world (vs "Strong Lady Is Aggro For Apparently No Reason after getting exploded in a fight we don't know the stakes of at the time")
-the audio engineering is bad.

Corollary: My computer bluescreened the first time I opened the game (seems to be fine afterward).

I never heard of this game until this topic.

I am not a fan of Souls like games, but after some research I hear this is a Souls-lite game so maybe that's the middle ground I need.

Plus the setting is one I like, I am a fan of flintlock fantasy (currently in the middle of the gunpowder mage series). So if you want ME to try a Souls-like/lite game that's one way to get me to try.

But the game reviews I see put this game at a 'meh' rating, and it's only on seriesX and PS5, which I don't have either, and I'm not gonna buy one just to play a 'meh' game.

It is a game I would buy at a discount on a system I own, not one I'm going out of my way to get.

Tried the game, since it launched on gamepass.

My 2 biggest gripes with the game.

1: the controls. They feel kinda.. floaty and a little slow I suppose? I mean you can execute a double jump to stop your momentum while falling and land safely where you'd otherwise die as you land. But half of the time you kinda miss, because the double jump comes out at least 0.5s late after the input. Same with combat, it feels a little sluggish for how fast it is supposed to be and doesn't feel like there is any weight to it. On top of that it is rather simplistic.

2: the story and the main character. We have no idea who she is, but apparently she is the best 'sapper' and all we have to show for it, is her word. We dont get any character (or world) building. She just sets out to do a thing, because.

Minor gripes are the traversal, it feels similar to combat and jumping, just.. "off" for lack of a better way to discribe it. Areas feel underdeveloped. Not graphically, but just empty and uninteresting. While combat isnt hard per se, the game does throw 3-4 enemies at the same time at you while not actually providing the tools to properly deal with it. I mean you will walk away, and use a charge from your healing item, but never does it feel like you could get away unharmed.

I do like the combo system, you get more "experience" if you go longer and longer without being hit. And yes I like this idea, that you can bank the bonus exp as you see fit. But the combat is designed in such a way that it is hardly rewarding.

An extremely average game at best, and at its worst it is just bad. You dont feel connected to the protagonist and their struggles, there is no sense of urgency or agency. The best thing are the graphics but is under utilized in most areas.
