Still mindblowing that he has published exactly zero more GoT books since BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN STARTED12 years
It just seems like hes bored of the main story and just wants to do side content.That's been the case for a long time. Crazy that he's written more books set in the asoiaf universe over the last few years, but none of them continue the "Game of Thrones" plot line.
He's not tired of writing the world, he just has no idea how to end it.Sure he does.
Sure he does.I was out at season 6, and I'm a book fan.
He just didn't like how everyone reacted to his ending, so now he's scrambling* to change it.
*doing absolutely no writing
another spin of the wheel my ass
The book is never coming out, give up
Honestly, I've been assuming that Game of Thrones actually followed his plot fairly accurately and he's been having to rewrite Winds of Winter because everyone hated how GoT ended.I'm not really sure how anyone that's actually read it could think that. There are way too many plots and characters that were cut or changed entirely.
I hope in like 30 years nobody remembers his name and his books are just another random unfinished fantasy series sitting next to all the other ones on bookstore shelves. The man doesn't deserve a "legacy" at this point. He deserves to be forgotten.
Because he doesn't want to piss off people who might otherwise watch the myriad shows he's producing.Bingo. He will string people along as long as he can. He has not intention of finishing anything. He's content with the shows now. He's rich now, he doesn't need to care.

Todd Howard: Let's hire this guy!

That lazy fuck will never finish the core material.
Stephen King made him look like an absolute fool in their interview together.
Martin: You write every day???
King: Uhhhyeah? Its my job.
The first season of the show did follow it fairly well. In fact certain scenes and dialogue were literally page for page out of the book but as the story expanded and more characters and lands were introduced things were changed a lot.
Some things were completely ignored, some were changed, some characters merged into one, ages were changed, all kinds of things drastically changed in some scenarios. Obviously a tv series can never keep up with a book series when it comes to details so the longer the show went on and the more the story advanced the more it became different from the book to me.
Everyone wants to complain about the final season but I thought things were off the rails about season 4 but at that point I just completely ignored everything about the books and the characters and simply just tried to enjoy it as the show it was and for the most part I did.
I really enjoyed some of the character portrayals and seeing them brought to life. My two favorite characters in the books are Tyrion and The Hound and I thought both were portrayed enjoyably on screen. They didn't always do well on the characters but I felt they did well on those two.
The question now is: Who will finish their story first? George R R Martin with Song of Ice and Fire? or Togashi with Hunter X Hunter?
Hunter X Hunter actually has chapters release sometimes
the last chapter was released in December, and that was essentially 1 volume of the manga after a 4 year hiatus where he was writing literally nothing.Still more than GRRM has produced.
Or the last 2 seasons could have just been full 10 episode seasons. Which would give you an extra 7 episodes.

I thought Tyrion was handled poorly in the last half of the show. The writers and especially Dinklage captures his wit in early seasons, but they didn't give him much to do and completely whitewashed his darker side in the latter seasons.Seasons 6-8 in a nutshell
He made the story way too complicated and doesn't know how to resolve the two dozen storylines he's created. Some purists slam the TV show for combining characters and cutting storylines, but the books are a real mess.Too many characters. Too many new POV characters.
He says something like this whenever he has a new project to promote.This. All he cares about is milking this series
Things that will happen before we get Winds of Winter:Don't forget Metroid Prime 4
* Elder Scrolls 6
* Fallout 5
* Half-Life 3
* Hollow Knight: Silksong
* a new season of Venture Bros.
* Jimmy Hoffa's gravesite confirmed
* Al Capone's actual vault uncovered
* The very concept of 'winter' as we know it ceasing to exist due to global warming
Togashi at least has a good reason, he has suffered from chronic back pain for years, so their are long stretches when he can't draw at all.
Too many characters. Too many new POV characters.
I mean you say that, but even lesser Mangaka hire people on to do most of the work. From what I remember he's only recently allowed juniors to be on his staff, though I might be wrong about that. I do know however that he's tasked his wife with finishing it if he can't do it. She did Sailor Moon.Might be a pride thing. That he still wants to be the one to finish it.
