I had a feeling, because that's a terrible way to measure a games "success" especially one that is tied to a "culture war". Not saying the game is bad or good (I personally enjoyed what I played in the demo), but user review score and count is easily manipulated and depending on the context can be used in bad faith to not give an accurate picture.
It was the second best selling game in April after Helldivers 2.
Has been the top selling game on Famitsu's Japan Sales chart for three weeks as of 4 days ago.
Was nearing 100k physical sales in Japan last I read and while rumors about selling 1 mil copies at launch have not been confirmed, it doesn't seem like a farfetched idea at this point about a month or so in.
I guess everyone has their own measurement of success, but just constantly saying "culture war" and "controversies" is propping up the game feels like hyper focusing on the "bad" which wasn't even that bad at all. Much like Dragons Dogma 2's micro transactions scandal.
I enjoyed the game. One of my favorites in the past year or so. If y'all wanna focus so much on the controversies and culture war, then that's all fine and good too.
