OP is leaving out the part where the box is brought to you by a man in a suit. He is carrying a case with 1 million dollars in it. He says if you push the button, he'll give you the money, but some one you don't know will die.
So you push the button, he gives you the money, and he turns to leave. You ask him what he's going to do with the box that has the button in it. His answer? "I'm going to go offer the same deal to some one who doesn't know you."
Bosses are immune to the eat command so it won't be possible to end the final boss fight of the game by eating it.
