GoT ending is in another tier of terrible endings in comparison to the vast majority of other shows due to the quality of its earlier seasons.

2 and a half men being a sitcom made it not so much of a big deal.

IMO anybody who complains about Lost's ending wasn't actually paying attention to the show and was just too fixated on their theory they came up with in the first season being "right"

Specifically talking about the people who insist the island was Purgatory and everyone was dead the whole time despite the mountains of evidence to the contrary and the fact that most of the show can't make any sense at all if this was the case

I never have nor am I interested in watching Two and a Half Men. So I can't judge the finale. But it's going to take a lot for me to not think HIMYM deserves the Gold Medal for worst series finale. Especially for a comedy series.

Hot take. I don't think Lost's finale is that bad, and I thought this soon after it aired not years later with the benefit of hindsight. I wouldn't call it an all time great but I had and have since seen a lot worse.

If you're going to pick a sitcom with a bad ending, go with Seinfeld

HIMYM had a fine ending, the build up to Tracy was perfect. Problem is, we didn't get nearly enough of her and Ted.

The final season being built around a wedding taking place over a weekend was probably why the final season sucked, outside of the Tracy scenes, it's also why we got a rushed relationship with her and Ted, which sucked.

They at least gave us an understanding of why she was so perfect for Ted and why everyone loved her. So there's that. It's hard to develop a character through little scenes or interaction, and they did an outstanding job. We all just wish we had more, which I guess makes us all relate to Ted much more.

Unironically implying Seinfeld had a worse ending than TAAHM lol

I don't know what TAAHM's ending was, because I didn't watch that awful show. I did watch Seinfeld, which was great but had a shit ending

I think HIMYM had an amazing ending if they just stopped at the scene with them at the train station in the rain. That was an incredibly beautiful scene and kind of what people wanted out of the series. Anything that happened beyond that could easily be inferred by the viewer if they so too chose to do such a thing.

I didn't mind the Seinfeld finale. I didn't watch it live so my perspective might be different. Plus I skipped the clip shows.

This. That whole last season was rough, but that ending somehow made it even worse. Then again, I think it could have been done right somehow. It's not a completely terrible idea.

Maaaan, Killing Eve was a truly beautiful show but holy shit did they have their heads up their own ass for that final season. Better Things is another pretentious final season too.

I hate when shows try to be more philosophical for their final season, it's like fuck off, either start the show that way or don't do it at all. Don't give me 30 episodes like this, then try some arthouse nonsense for the final season.

Legion worked because it was always a mindfuck. But imagine Legion being a straight forward show, then the final season is just nonsense thrown at the screen for 6 episodes.

There were a bunch of shows that did their final seasons extremely poorly post covid and it was annoying.

wasn't there one show in like the 80's-90's where the ending was like "it was all a dream"?

which, considering that it apparently had a few crossover one-off episodes with other shows, would imply they were as well

That show was losing my interest around midseason when it was announced they weren't going to get another season.

And they came back after the break and it became so much better, but obviously it was too late.

*clears throat*

The ending, specifically the finale, I have little problem with ( besides Kate shooting MiB ). My problems lie with how "it's all about the characters" when almost every character got shit writing in the final season-and-a-half.
- Sayid went absolutely off-the-rails at DHARMA, was 'healed' at the Temple but duddenly became evil then sat aroundbeing miserable until he was good again for five seconds before the batteries didn't last on the bomb.
- Sun was running a shady empire, instantly broke down learning Jim was alive, spent the rest of her time asking everyone "Have you seen my husband?" then reunites with her husband only to die so so dumbly with him and leave Ji Yeon parentless.
- Claire's craaazy and misses her baby and is kind of sort of a MiB follower and I think dies?
- Widmore finally reaches the island after four seasons of teasing only to go out like a complete chump almost as soon as he arrives.
- Desmond is back! And he's silent and weird! And... it's a literal cork... wtf. Cue Jacob meme, "What's a metaphor?"
- "Across the Sea" is a far worse episode than "Strangers in a Strange Land" or "Fire + Water" or "Whatever the Case May Be" and it derails the trnsion of the season, delivers 'answers' in a haphazard uninteresting way, ruins the Jacob/Man in Black mystique, the whole Candidate thing, and... it's just so bad.
- it's just all so bad...

By the end of the show I dont think anyone still thought that was the case so I doubt that had anything to do with the disappointment. But funny you mention the Purgatory thing because my only issue with the final season was how the Flash sideways as we called them actually turned out to be a kind of purgatory for the characters on the show to be reunited after death when it made far more sense especially with the opening scene of the final season for it to be a parallel reality brought about by the question of whether or not the island was destroyed in the 70s by the events of the season five finale.

Newhart was just a big joke about Dallas completely going back on killing a character. It's also a throw back to the original Bob Newhart Show.

Season 5 raises a very good question from Miles. He suggests that maybe they themselves cause the incident that leads to the island doing it's thing and ultimately causes the plane to crash on the island. So Miles suggests they should just do nothing. Turns out Miles may have been right.

At least until you figure in Jacob's intervention.

This is the correct answer. Nothing else in this topic comes close to the double disaster Dexter had. They had another chance to fix it and doubled down on ending the series in an even worse manner.
I swear the stuff people tend to really shit all over on this site is always stuff I like. I mean I know gamefaqs tends to legitimately hate on basically everything. I have never seen a group of gamers dislike so many games but the amount of shows and movies people also dislike all the time is like damn.

I flat out enjoyed Two and Half Men until Charlie Sheen was off the show. After that it was meh but I still enjoyed some plotlines and episodes here and there. It went longer than it should have but all in all I really liked it. Especially the Charlie Sheen years and when Jake is still pretty much a little kid.

As for shit ending the ending for the original run of Dexter I thought was quite crappy for such a good show.

Also I'll just go in the opposite direction and say one of the better show endings to a great show was Six Feet Under. I felt really satisfied with the ending.

Yeah, I only watched a few episodes but I am surprised at all the vitriol for it here. It used to be relatively mainstream, it was Charlie Sheen's biggest role at the time. It was trashy but seemed to be on the same level as stuff like American Dad which gets relatively more positive reception here.
Speaking of HIMYM and NPH I just remembered Gone Girl existed. That was pretty huge that year.

As someone else said, St. Elsewhere was all imagined by an autistic kid looking into a snow globe, suggesting all the shows that it crossed over with (like Cheers) and THEIR spinoffs are all in the mind of this one kid as well.

And of course, Newhart ended with the whole show being a dream his character from The Bob Newhart Show had. However, that ending was awesome.
