How much do you keep as liquid in your account?
There's a good chance investing that money will help that amount keep up with inflation and hopefully grow to more than that. Wealth tends to be snowball-y so the more you have, the more you get. Aligning your investment with the investments the bank already has tends to be a win-win. They might be doing you a favor (and themselves, in the process)
Got about 10k in savings and checking. Its not much, I do pay all my own bills and expenses.
