Why does Nintendo always aim so low?I made a topic a couple months ago on the Switch board asking about "what if" the successor was as powerful as the PS5, and the topic went into specs territory saying that a handheld just can't be that powerful without being a huge battery drain and overheating the system. So PS4 strength, to me, doesn't sound low.
I'm still salty at that topic from earlier in the year where me and another dude argued profusely that the Switch 2 was going to gamble on DLSS with shockingly subpar specs. We got laughed out. This was common knowledge for a long time tbh.
If this turns out to be true, lmao.

You can still download the games you purchased through the eshop, you can't just buy things there anymore.
Is that true? I swear last time I tried I couldn't redownload my wii games. I'd do anything to redownload Paper Mario again but last time I tried I couldn't. If I'm wrong on this I'll happily admit it and be happy for being able to redownload Paper Mario rather than being forced to subscribe to the N64 games on the switch.
I bet Pokemon will still run like junkOf course it will. Gamefreak will continue to make it
I bet Pokemon will still run like junk
Was that in 2022 when you last tried? There was like a 4 month period where the Wii Shop Channel was down for maintenance that year.
Wouldn't surprise me if it did. Hopefully Palworld will have given them the kick up the arse needed for them to actually try in their next release. It's embarrassing how much money they've made off the games to date and still can't compete with an indie studio when it comes to creating a game that runs well and actually excites people rather than just phoning it in and releasing more of the same thing we've seen for almost 3 decades.Almost as if publishers are a big problem with these productions.
That rings a bell so possibly. So to confirm you can still download games on the Wii from the store.
I can't be bothered to get my wii out just to find out I still can't do it tbh.
No, you should be able to tell, from context, that I'm speaking in a technical sense, not a financial sense.
.....The technical reason is "It's better than the previous one"
Do video game consoles need more of a reason than that to exist?
You might be able to figure if you actually read my post, maybe.
I'm still salty at that topic from earlier in the year where me and another dude argued profusely that the Switch 2 was going to gamble on DLSS with shockingly subpar specs. We got laughed out.It was obvious it would be used to (try to) make up for inevitably subpar specs assuming an Nvidia GPU would be what Nintendo goes with. Having a console/handheld hybrid is going to limit the resolution/fps, so this was inevitable.
If this turns out to be true, lmao.
Why are we just assuming this is legit? You're right, close the topic.
Can't wait to see the XBOX 360 looking games they create for itThe Switch is pretty much a 7.5 gen system. Switch 2 is a 8.5 gen system.

Drop the handheld, keep the joycons, upgrade the specs to current Gen. People are playing your systems because of the IPs not the latest gimmick you can think up Nintendo.
Also I like people complaining about the low specs on a hybrid handheld.
I mean you could probably figure out how to fit a 4090 equivalent in there if you sacrifice size and want the battery to last .015 seconds. It's a balancing act.
Well this is just a silly post. The handheld market is insanely competitive now. Steam Decks and ROG Ally's for example make the Switch look like a fuckin gameboy. The steam deck battery lasts two hours, give or take.
Typical Nintendo showing up days late and dollars short and people continue to give them the benefit of the doubt for some reason.
Why are we just assuming this is legit?Because people want it to be true and it's "believable"
The steam deck battery lasts two hours, give or take. That's highly dependent on the game being played for both devices tbf
Had a power outage and was playing my switch for about eightish hours and still have battery left.
Thus, balancing act.

I wouldnt care about the power level if nintendo would actually support the consoleThats a bad hot take
they're developing for one system instead of two like they used to and were lucky to get two games a year that arent remakes or rehashes
the excuse for that has been theyre gearing up for switch 2 for like five years now; hope they actually have something to show for it
Also even the premium Model of Switch is cheaper then the most basic model of Steam Deck.Yeah cant believe people are ignoring the price and battery life as significant factors of a handheld device
And Switch doesn't need to worry about benchmarks or compatibility either.
Also even the premium Model of Switch is cheaper then the most basic model of Steam Deck. This is another, and absolutely enormous factor. Plug and play appeal. You pop a switch cartridge in, you download a game, it works. No tinkering, no manual OS updating, nothing. That's fucking huge for mass appeal.
And Switch doesn't need to worry about benchmarks or compatibility either.
Thats a bad hot takehow?
Nintendo only has a little over 7000 employees globally. It takes groups of many hundreds of people many years to make 1 AAA game nowadays. Now of course Nintendo games arent on that scale other than maybe requiring a ton of people for Zelda, but their output of total games makes sense all things considered.that's the thing, they're not making AAA games on that scale.
that's the thing, they're not making AAA games on that scale.
so many of their games for switch are essentially formulaic 2D platformers. which is fine, they do those better than anyone, but then it begs the question of what they're doing with all their development time when they're doing basically zero innovation outside of Zelda
Theyre budgeting properly and making shitloads of money. Nobody else in the industry can say that. Bottomless pockets Microsoft are closing studios and firing people left and right and arent pumping out games either. The PS5 is a wasteland for games too, so Nintendo doesnt deserve any flak for it either. If game development only took like a few dozen people back in the day then maybe theyd deserve blame, but it doesnt anymore.that's nonsense, PS5 and XSX might not have many or any first party exclusives but since they're modern hardware they get lots and lots of support from third party developers
