In Ocarina of Time, do you do the Spirit Temple first or Shadow?

When I played it growing up I always did Shadow Temple first, it just felt natural to do so. Friend of mine said that's the wrong order.

I replayed on switch recently and did spirit temple first and saved shadow (the darkest temple) for last and it actually felt much better. The shadow temple feels like a more appropriate preamble to the final showdown with Ganon at the castle.

Also you get the mirror shield first which is way cooler than the damn hover boots which are basically useless.

Which order do you normally do the temples in?

I didn't even know you could do Spirit before Shadow.
I agree with you, Blue. - FinalRockerdude, Vgmasta, ZeldaFan42, ObservanTeMK, Magoo111, E121Phi, re4master543, PJiddy, bloodmage3 (cont. in quote)
I liked Spirit Temple as the last dungeon because the far end of the Gerudo Desert felt like the last great frontier of Hyrule. Plus Koume and Kotake are significant enough to have a dual-form boss fight as well as their own theme song.

I sequence-broke that game as much as I could otherwise, but I never switched up Shadow / Spirit Temples beyond the 'suggested' order.

Shadow before Spirit just feels right and that's what I always did besides switching it up one time just to do it. The Spirit Temple and the Gerudos being connected to Ganondorf makes it feel more like a "final" temple.

Spirit first, just because it looks cool, so I want to look at it longer.

Spirit seems naturally like the last dungeon
SEXY SEXY!
Spirit is a lot more epic and the better final temple
I am the Cheese! I am the best character on the show! I am better than both the salami and the bologna COMBINED!
I save the spirit for last and then kopy the file before starting it, so I kan always go back and do Gerudo stuff whenever I feel like it.

First time playing I did Fire before Forest, because Navi bugs you go to Kakariko to get the Hookshot immediately and if you're already in Kakariko then Death Mountain is right there. But otherwise I did them in the "normal" order

Holy crap, I always thought you had to do the forest temple first no matter what. I guess because of the order of the first 3 child dungeons

the first time through? Shadow, because it was more easily accessible. but the true answer is "it's an open-world game, do whichever you want first". Navi pushes you to forest, fire, water, shadow, spirit in that order when you listen to her "HEY", but as mentioned you can do fire before entering forest, water before entering fire (though not forest), etc.

Spirit always seemed like a good final dungeon since that's where you get the best shield and when you fight Ganondorf's 2nd in command Kotake and Koume.

What? You are supposed to do shadow first?

Never did.

Shadow feels a lot more natural to do before Spirit because you are always running by Kakario Village for one reason or another whereas the Gerudos are quite out of the way. Like unless you are doing the Biggoron Sword quest there is basically no reason to head that way besides curiosity.

I've only played OoT once and did what I guess would be the "canon/recommended" order of forest -> fire -> water -> shadow -> spirit. Actually, I didn't know until years later that you could do a different order. If I ever get a chance to play it again, I might have to switch things up a little~

Yeah you need the bow from Forest Temple to get the map in Fire Temple so you're clearly expected to do Forest first but that's the only thing and it's obviously optional.

I swear, this whole topic is a conspiracy.

You all actually did shadow tempel first and that is supposed to be the normal thing?

Shadow sucks to end on, so always spirit last.

and i can TELL you, always faster and easier to just kill em. Just is!
Shadow the vast majority of the time. I have done Spirit first before though.

Have never altered the Forest > Fire > Water order though.

You can't, at least not without some deliberate sequence breaking.

Did Fire before Forest because kid me was freaked out by wallmasters. Though I was fine with them in LttP.

Did Spirit before Shadow because the fucking Redeads scared everyone back then.

not even that, if you go past it then once you pass the moving fire wall you can just climb over the cage and jump down.

Getting the Biggoron's Sword is always the first thing I do in the 'Adult' world - I will never not get a kick out of jumping Epona over Gerudo Canyon. After that I'll either do Forest>Water>Fire or the recommended Forest>Fire>Water. I dunno if I ever did Forest later simply because it feels like such a good first dungeon for the 'Adult' world.

Seems like it's the more common choice, but the game was clearly designed to allow the order to go in either direction. If not, they wouldn't have made it so the Haunted Wasteland was traversable with the longshot.
