This is what convinced me into getting a colonoscopy a couple years ago. Seeing so much blood both on the stool and on the toilet paper scared the shit(no pun intended) out of me. Thankfully all that was found were two small polyps(which were removed) and hemorrhoids.
From what I've been reading, when young adults see blood in their stool, they assume it's just hemorrhoids because they think they're too young to get colon cancer. And if they do go see a doctor, that doctor will also assume it's just hemorrhoids without doing any testing because that person's too young. And then years later, that person ends up diagnosed with either stage 3 or 4 colon cancer. You'd think by now all medical professionals will be aware that colon cancer is no longer an "old man's disease".
