Yes. I have a sleep machine. I sometimes use it, but not all the time. It's supposed to make me less sleepy during the day and I guess prevent health issues.
I might have it

My dad has it for sure

I was never diagnosed but this used to be a problem I had when I was drinking a lot. My brain would wake up but my body wouldnt. Id slam my leg down on the bed to try to wake my body up (for some reason I could move one leg) and I could hear my wife yelling but I couldnt move or breath. This hasnt happened in a while.
More to do with the humidity than heat
I've had it for most of my life. Took a sleep test back in 2020 and after I woke up, they told me I stopped breathing about 12 times during the night. Got a C-Pap for it and used it until late 2021 due to reasons I won't go into here and I haven't used it since then (my reasons are unrelated to the usefulness of the machine. It really helped me sleep much better.)
Without truth, there is nothing.
If You have certain symptoms such as snoring, or risk factors such as obesity, then yes you probably should be tested.

Still, CPAP therapy is hard. I tried it and couldnt do it. The machines require constant cleaning if you dont want to get sick, and there wasnt any amount of cleaning I could do to prevent the machine from putting rashes on my face, not to mention some masks requiring constant adjustment to enable you to breathe, or others not venting making you feel like youre choking

It works really well for some people, but for me it seemed to make little difference in how well I slept.
I never wanted to be a serial killer, anyway.

Ive gone through spells of it for all my adult life.

Twice a month Ill wake up choking and have to force the first breath. Then Ill go a year without it happening.

I dont snore and Im in shape.

Can't it be fatal?
Research shows that sudden death is more common in people with obstructive sleep apnea who are also older than age 60, have more severe apnea, or have very low oxygen levels . Although rare, death can occur because a person's breathing doesn't restart after a brief pause due to sleep apnea.

So yeah, it can be fatal, along with other conditions.

My mother has it and uses a machine while sleeping. Lately I have been waking up at night gasping for air so ima assume I have some form of it.
