i have a bunch of beef, bacon, and black bean stew in the freezer that i used for this. it was a sourdough bread bowl, that i sprayed with olive oil and smeared roasted garlic on, toasted, and then laid some slices of marbled jack on to melt. it was really fucking good. but kinda WAY too much bread lol. i have most of the bottom left over that i'm probably going to have for dinner tomorrow with some more stew just in a regular bowl.

Bread bowls are so unhealthy but man..... they are so good. Fulling them up and eventually eating them from the outside and down is just so satisfying.

(-) on bacon
(-) on black beans

So if I start things at a 10/10, I'd give this an 8/10 visually and theoretically.

thanks! i like to put a ton of stuff in my beef stew. way more kinds of veggies than just the standard potatoes and carrots, though you can't really see any in this pic. and bacon so i can guarantee there's meat in every bite, and black beans for the fiber.

I'm a big fan of stew. I'm honestly not that high on breadbowls. I would rather just have some fresh biscuits made with stew or even just some plain buttered bread. Breaded bowls are just too much but it looked like it turned out well.

This is just a personal quirk but I always 100% of the time will opt for pinto beans over black beans. I love pinto beans, dislike black beans. I'm good with Navy beans being used for baked beans. I'm good with kidney beans being used in many things like chili. There are many different beans for different uses but when it comes to stuff like this I'll always go pinto. So I penalize you for that even though its 100% not your fault.

yeah i'm not that big on bread bowls either, hence this is the first one i've ever made. and i don't think i've ever actually even had a bread bowl with soup or stew before at all. only pasta bread bowls when they used to have those at Dominos, but those were fucking good and one of my favorite menu items. i feel like a bread bowl with soup or stew is a fun concept, but just WAAAAYY too much bread. dunno if i'll ever do it again.

i like pinto beans too, but i feel like they tend to take over whatever dish you use them in. black beans mesh better with lots of other stuff imo.
