i hate how the scooby franchise hates scrappy

i liked him as a kid and they have reinvented the core cast plenty of times but they refuse to try and fix scrappy instead they treat him like garbage

Maybe the creators hate him.

Its not like Scooby Doo wasnt really great, it was just one of the few cartoons of that era that wasnt complete trash. Scrappy almost made it complete trash.

Im surprised they didnt try to do it in Velma though.

Scrappy could be an interesting character if he was more than just a couple catchphrases.

He did what he was made to do, renew interest in a TV series that dropped viewers.

I wasn't that much of a fan of him.

I always assumed they meant him to be hated.

Why else giving him such an irritating personality and annoying catchphrases?

He invalidated Fred and Velma while (the "face" and the clue master, respectively) while often serving in Daphne's distressed damsel capacity....without any of their charm.

I don't think he's the worst character in the franchise (hey, remember Scooby Dum? I do, unfortunately) but his hatred is well deserved by fans of the original series. People who grew up with his iteration of the franchise are probably more forgiving about him. I more or less grew up with both and liked the original series much better, even with its trademark jankiness.

I didn't know that this became a running joke, don't know if the scrappy hate was mentioned in the series before the 2002 live action movie.

Since they frequently aired the 60s and 70s cartoons when I was a kid, I'd just watch all of them, from the originals to the ones where it's for some reason just Shaggy and Daphne and Scooby (red shirt Shaggy ever explained?) to finally Pup called Scooby, since the 90s was the apex of "Muppet babies" style cartoons. Some of which were great imo.

And you know what, the cartoons had Scrappy but they also had the equally annoying Scooby Dumb, and while I didn't really care for them, I never really got angry I just watched the show regardless. I once heard that the decision for the plot twist reveal in the 2002 movie was based on the supposed overwhelming fan hate towards Scrappy.
