I started it last night and I'm only a few hours in, but it's pretty much everything I hoped it would be so far. Even more so actually because I wasn't expecting there to be voice acting, so that was a nice surprise.

I am! About 30 hours in. It's basically Suikoden 6 without the name. The game, with some technical problems sure, but the story, and character all Suikoden-like and Murayama's writing show.

Forget the stupid translation/localization grift, there are some good writings for a lot of the important story related scenes.

My only complaint is the Rune system is a bit awkward and the Hero combo is kind of useless.

Can't wait for 2!
We still haven't gotten Suikoden 6 but Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes is finally out!!

Game literally crashed within 5 minutes for me. Was going through some menus and it just froze.

I'm liking it a lot so far. I put in about 30 hours and I'm at level 48. My party is Yusuke, Garr and Gigina at the front and Foxiel, Lam and Nowa in the back. The game started out a little slow but it picks up as you go through it and coming from playing games like Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous I felt right at home at the castle building mechanics.

As someone who never played a Suikoden game before it's an enjoyable jrpg experience.

The only issue I've had concerning the PS5 version is one area suddenly random encounters just stopped happening completely.

I noticed a lot of people are reading reviews they saw on Metacritic, but the issue is several of the reviews for the Series X and PS5 version are people that actually play the Switch version and uploading it under those consoles.

I'm only about 5 hours in and so far I'm loving it. Suikoden was always one of my favorite series and I still have all my copies of the games.
Furthermore, The GOP is a Fascist Organization and must be destroyed

several things. couldn't afford even if i had time to play it right now. i'm too busy trying to lay the groundwork to launch my small business selling my mini cheesecakes, which will be soon. and i shouldn't be buying new games anyway because my backlog is already so big. and i can't even get to anything in my backlog right now because i haven't upgraded my PC from Windows 7 yet, and so launching Steam has a very high probability of crashing my computer.
It don't matter. None of this matters.

Literally as soon as you can control your character I go into the menu and start browsing the stats and it just hangs. Music still plays. Thought my controller has disconnected or something but I could go back to the PS front end. Hopefully a one off but not a great first impression.

How's the HQ \ Castle by the way? Is it as deep as Ni No Kuni 2?

It's nice, but even on hard it feels like I'm just going into every fight on auto pilot, brute forcing everything with simple standard attacks, because there are either no skills, or the skills are not worth using the mana cost.

Auto battle seems to never use hero combos at all, and it's crazy how they go from

I had this once in... 25 hours I think?

It was strange for sure. Exactly as you said, it felt like the controller disconnected.
