While I get that some people can't help but speak from the heart when it comes to pressing matters like the genocide at Gaza, sometimes we have to be more careful with what we say lest our words be used against us and those we hold dear. This former student is now being used as the face of the recent student protests by the far right. And while universities should protect all of their students, it's clear that they cannot be relied on to do the right thing which kind of limits the movements student protesters have to make without jeopardizing their futures.

unfortunately, conservatives will point at this one guy and act like he represents literally all people who sympathize with the victims in Gaza

This is why leftists, progressives, and liberals have to be careful with their words all the time because the conservative-friendly media will use any verbal faux pas to their advantage.

If speaking from the heart means saying hateful, threatening things to a minority group... maybe that person should reconsider speaking at all.

I write Naruto Fanfiction. But I am definitely not a furry.
Hope people who chant supporting the intifada and from the river to sea realize its supporting violence and stop blindly trusting student leaders/organizers like this guy. Its easy to get carried away in protests and actually hurt the Palestinian cause

If you think that is why anyone, not just leftists, should be careful with their words, then you truly don't understand the gravity of calling for violence and the deaths of entire groups of people.

It's not about getting in trouble for what you say. It's about the effects those words have on others and what they might be emboldened to do.

I'd think you might understand this, given your support of other marginalized groups and condemnation of conservative speech which you believe endangers them.

Assuming I have the right person, of course. I don't come here often. The name sounds familiar, though.
