The Apple Vision Pro--a $3,500 mixed-reality headset--reportedly isn't selling too well and demand for the high-tech device is lower than expected, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via IGN). This has reportedly led Apple to make big production cuts, and it has been suggested that demand for the device has been weak in the US.

Apple has cut its Vision Pro shipments to 400,000-450,000 units, according to the report, and Ming-Chi Kuo has speculated that the company may not release a cheaper Vision Pro model in 2025. It has been claimed that Apple is predicting a year-on-year decline for the headset in 2025. "The challenge for Vision Pro is to address the lack of key applications, price, and headset comfort without sacrificing the see-through user experience," Ming-Chi Kuo wrote.

So the device that was too expensive, no killer app, and terrible battery life failed to meet sales expectations? Color me surprised.

And many of them returned it within the allowable time frame.

Of course. Review one to get the clicks and send it right back.

Until the technology reaches the point of fitting into the frame of normal glasses, I can't imagine it being anything more than a meme at that pricepoint. If they could get the current ones down to $1000, they might have more luck selling them.

Only developers who want to make applications and enthusiasts who want the newest thing are going to get this. What's the problem? Someone, some company, some entity has to make the investment in the space to push the field.

People don't want to strap a screen to their face? Shocking.

Who was the target demographic for this device? Gaming is generally a low-medium income persons hobby I believe.

So if they arent making it affordable for then idk what other outcome they expected.

Hololens 2 is $2300 MSRP and you can get it for cheaper than that usually. It does most everything the Vision Pro does.

Buisnesses. I'm in the aerospace industry and my job is in AR/VR. I'm on a buisness trip right now, sitting at a vendors table with my Hololens 2 right here (we're done and talking about lunch now). I brought my Hololens so we can see a model of our aircraft interacting with the thing we're buying to make sure everything fits, and the vendor can make markings on their floor so they have a better scale of our aircraft.

The Hololens 2 is similar to Apple where Microsoft originally marketed it towards consumers and video games, but it's also $3500 so no one bought it. Now Apple priced theirs at the same price and seeing similar results. I don't have an Apple Pro yet, but other AR groups have it and say it's the best AR/VR device on the market. I don't know why Apple tried to make it for consumers, that would never work at that price.

I remember the one youtuber that's big on scratching everything did a review on these when they came out, turns out the "glass" on the front is super easy to scratch and scuff and the warranty doesn't cover it, so you have to buy an upgraded warranty that cost as much as the "glass" replacement.

It looks like an interesting product, and I like Apple stuff. But $3,500 is just way too much for about 99% of the population.

Yeah, that's just far too expensive for a VR headset with an Apple logo on it.
