I have an irrational fear of plesiosaurs.Dude. Those giant marine dinosaurs and such fill me with dread. It's bad enough with animals like sharks, squids, and whales; the idea of being underwater in the open ocean, knowing those humongous beasts are out there... somewhere... maybe directly under me, with their giant mouths and all that... *shudder*
A CEgal once said that the scariest cryptids to her are giant jellyfish because they are most realistic of all cryptids. it creeps her out how they can just kill indiscriminatelyI came into this thread to say jellyfish.

My local zoo has replicas of a great white and giant squid hanging from the ceiling of a visitor's center, and I honestly have a tough time looking up at them. Likewise, when I visited the House on the Rock in Wisconsin, there's a life-size scene of a whale fighting a giant squid and a walkway that takes you right past the gaping maw of the whale. I had to keep my head turned away from it and look at the wall exhibits.
I know it's ridiculous, and as an adult in his forties it makes me feel ridiculous, but the shit overloads me with anxiety.
were Marine dinosaurs ever proven to be real? heard they got debunked a few years agoOf course they were real. We have the fossil records. Tons of them. Where did you hear that?

Sharks are queued by your behavior. If you try to swim away or otherwise panic you'll get attacked. If you face them and put your hand over their their nose as they approach they get all bashful instead.Exactly. You can almost always turn them away by leading their noses away. But it varies greatly. Nurse sharks are literal puppies who enjoy attention while tiger sharks need to be firmly guided away. And thats if youre calm and facing them. I would still rather face a great white or a tiger than a bull shark.
I don't doubt it. I also don't think whales would have any reason to cause me harm, but that doesn't convince my irrational fear.Being around a fuck huge whale like a humpback would make most people scared shitless. Even if they view humans as polite pets lol
Being around a fuck huge whale like a humpback would make most people scared shitless. Even if they view humans as polite pets lolI would definitely not fuck with whales of any kind. Sperm Whales fuckin scare off orcas just by clicking at them.
Being around a fuck huge whale like a humpback would make most people scared shitless. Even if they view humans as polite pets lolThe middle of the ocean isn't exactly the human's natural habitat. When you're there and underwater, being a little on edge is already reasonable. And there's just open water where things can approach from any direction, unlike land where at least "below" is off limits. Now throw in any huge-ass beast, and being scared shitless is perfectly understandable even if it's a huge-ass beast that you know isn't aggressive by default.

Sperm Whales fuckin scare off orcas just by clicking at them. There are documented cases of large whales protecting divers from other large threats, usually sharks. Theyre highly intelligent, like elephants or dolphins. Theres also never been a human death by an orca in the wild. All human deaths by humpbacks and sperm whales were completely accidental.
