So what happens next? Does he get another 10 days to source for funds or is the AG allowed to start taking property?
Pretty sure the AG wants to start taking his properties so we'll see what happens tomorrow.

I assume the courts will give him an extension to find a new bond. Doubt it'll be 2 weeks though, should be 1 or 2 days at most. Maybe by Friday.

Yet another delay tactic.

James should put the petal to the metal. Trump ran out of goodwill and second chances about a million years ago.

Not much she can do when the courts keep giving him passes.

Trump knew, or should have known, that the bond company he went with was not capable of issuing the bond.

Give him two days, end of Wednesday (which the criminal trial would not be in session during that time anyway).

When a criminal gets sentenced, they have to appeal while serving that sentence.

Trump doesnt deserve this level of leniency.

The insurance company he put up to cover the $175 million bond does not have the money to cover the bond, with only about $136 million some odd in reserves.

Additionally, theyre not allowed to cover individual claims that exceed 10% of their reserves, so the largest insurance payout they could cover is ~$13.6 million.

The money / company is also tied to some Cayman Islands account.

Trump essentially put up a worthless I.O.U. to cover the appeal bond and will almost certainly get rejected by the court
Also, the account he put up as collateral for the bond is an account he retains access to

so the whole thing sounds like just more fraud and should be another crime in itself

Hope they start seizing properties and he ends up in massive debt

We should really take back his Secret Service protection. It would fix like 97% of the problems with Trumps behavior.

I defy you to watch the first five minutes of that video then argue that Donald Trump is a well adjusted, mentally healthy man.

Nixon could have tested it but he resigned before it came to that. I wonder what would have happened if he did pardon himself, instead of leaving it up to Ford do it

The Burger Court wouldn't have let nonsense like that slide. Even the Rehnquist Court wouldn't have given it the time of day.

I can't say the same about the post-Kennedy/RBG Roberts Court.

That happened to Trump (twice), neither ended in an end to his presidency. I wonder if the Senate would have voted to remove Nixon at the height of the Cold War, luckily the threat alone was enough for Nixon to resign.

Yeah, feel like that would have been the best if shit got tested back then. I don't think the Republicans were crazy enough to rat fuck everything like they would now for Donnie.

The President has power to issue pardons but there is not specific language that exists stating a sitting President is allowed to pardon themselves. In theory it should not be permitted, but as previously stated no one has attempted it yet or been challenged in court.

By his own party. And he would have been removed by the Senate. Republicans had some standards before Fox News and talk radio did their number of the conservative base.
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4605774-former-jan-6-panel-chair-bill-secret-service-protection-felons/

The former chair of the now-disbanded Jan. 6 committee introduced a bill Friday that would strip Secret Service protection of any former executive convicted of a felony an effort to avoid the complications of incarcerating former President Trump should he be ordered to serve jail time.

The move takes aim at Secret Service protections that have left some legal observers suggesting that any eventual conviction of Trump would likely spur some form of home confinement rather than prison time, given his round-the-clock protection.

The easiest solution to this conundrum has always been isolation.

Trump I assume was a huge proponent of solitary, and this would afford him the safety he deserves while serving his time.

Nixon had met the minority leaders of both the House and Senate after the Smoking Gun tape was released, and they confirmed to him that he didn't have enough votes in either the House or Senate to avoid impeachment and removal from office.

That's why he resigned. If he thought he had any chance of having enough votes to avoid it, he would've stayed in office.

nah we gotta imagine if he is found guilty he would get house arrest

Trump keeps insisting he wants to go to prison, to be this country's Nelson Mandela. This is a man who is used to having anything he wants whenever he wants it, who is in need of constant adulation from others, and who dislikes germs. He obviously doesn't realize how ill equipped he is for time behind bars.

This, but I'd add the caveat that I very much doubt it would be at one of his own properties.

Putting aside both the fact that MAL/Trump Tower have other business uses and people coming and going, and the fact that there's a real possibility of these properties being seized at some point, if his base knows where he is being held you'd have to imagine that some mouth breather or another is going to get themselves killed every single day of his incarceration trying to "liberate" him. Realistically there are as many valid security concerns and intrinsic impracticalities with putting him under a standard house arrest as there are putting him in prison.

If it comes to incarceration, I would imagine it would be house arrest at a government-owned property (ie a house set aside for witness protection, police work etc ) and nobody would ever know where.

It's still wild to me how a former President/presidential candidate has a large scale cult that is literally willing to die for him.

I'm black, and my folks didn't even have this much devotion and loyalty to Obama, and they loved him.
I have nothing else to say
So today, we've got:
  • Opening arguments in the New York criminal trial
  • Hearing in the New York civil fraud trial about the validity of Trump's bond
