If there was a happy medium between the "karma requirements" and nothing of the sort I would go for that. But there isn't or they haven't found one that works yet and if I had to choose between the two now I would take the current system they have a hundred times out of a hundred.
And for a lot of these subs the karma requirement isn't "reddit" rules, it's the rules of the sub. Again I would take a happy medium, but I've seen totally unmoderated subs and they are terrible.
