Absolute banger of a song.

I've always loved that song. They still play it sometimes on the radio station that plays at the shop I work in.

I remember the video for it well too from when it used to air on Much Music back in the 90s.
Save for your doomed future
I really enjoyed all of their music in the 90's. Their first 3 albums were top tier. Especially their first two in 93 and 94. Their debut album came out right before the end of my junior year of high school. Their second album came out in 94 right when I was going into boot camp in the Navy. Like literally the day of.

Dolores had such an amazing voice. I never really followed them after the 3rd album in 96 and don't really recall them having a hit after that. Everything I ever hear played is from the first 3 albums and really from the 3rd album you only really hear Salvation being played. Virtually all of their radio play came from those first two albums which were amazing.

I've been meaning to make a topic about it.

I heard it pop on the radio the other day and was ecstatic because it wasn't that fucking cover.

Dolores ORiordan was supposed to be a part of the Bad Wolves cover but she died right before recording.

Great song.
Just call me Discount Dan.
I normally don't have a problem with Zack Snyder, but fuck him for using this song in Army of the Dead. Let's just ignore the message of the song and use it in a zombie movie just because of the name.
The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.
And it's about the dangnab North Ireland troubles, although Dolores specifically calls out the year 1916 which is the Easter Rebellion. But really Ireland had been opposing England in some way since 1798.
"You're made of spare parts, aren't ya, bud?"
Not my favorite Cranberries song, and the band I was in in the early 90s wrote a bassline nearly identical to this song a few months before it hit the radio so Im always slightly biased against it, but still an obvious classic from a great band

I always thought it was about Bosnia 1992-1995 for some reason

I think the lead singer dedicated the song to victims of Rwandan and Bosnia Genocide live a few times

This. I recently added this and a few other Cranberries songs to my Playlist and I couldn't help but think, "Dammit Dolores, why did you have to leave us?!". Just a beautiful person, inside and out.

Janet Devlin has the best cover.

I think this was used in a TV show I watched somewhat sorta sometime maybe recently. I still like Miley's better as far as covers go.

Great song. The Bad Wolves cover is OK too.
Brittney Slayes, the lead singer of my favorite band, also did a cover in support of BLM.

Also it's worth noting that while Zombie is a great song, its message reduces the Troubles to violence being committed by unthinking "zombies" whose problems are simply "in their heads". Dolores was not from Northern Ireland, and the violent acts committed by both the paramilitaries and government forces are very real.

Uhh no it's not. It's about PTSD flashbacks and the "zombie" is what the antipsychotics given as therapy turned people into.

Yeah, it's a great song. It's surely somewhere in the top 10 of my favorite Cranberries songs. "Dreams" and "Linger" from their debut album were bigger hits in the US but I feel that "Zombie" is their so-called signature song and "probably" the first song that most people associate the band with. I just want to note that their final album (released the year after Dolores' death) was a fine finale, if sobering for the fact that it really was over after 25 years. It's definitely worth a listen.

As well as the song War Child.
