You look at the people who are buying 20, 40, 60 100 dollar skins etc and read this shit and it's actually kind of fucking scary

Yeah cosmetics should always be free.

That's already what most DLC is for.

Paying some 10 or 20 for some DLC is already crazy in terms of content you usually get. They are all crazily overprided, when a handfull of skins has the same price as a full game. No one takes a look at some skin or cosmetic and says "oh yeah, that's worth 10 bucks" without putting it into the context of the game.

But when it's a game I already put 100, 200 or more hours into, then I'm like "I don't mind", especially when it's a cheaper indy game or even fully F2P.

Digital Collectors edition and stuff are basically the same. Pay extra 20 for nearly nothing. That's the biggest "shut up and take my money" move you can make, and there is nothing else in any other industry.

Imagine you order a full out menu in a restaurant for 70, but then say "wait, let me pay 20 extra so I get a more fancy glass to drink from it.
Planning is the process of replacing chance with error.
I have never spent money on cosmetic DLC and even if I did, I can't imagine I would ever spend more than $5.

That said, if other people want to spend money on it, and the company is being transparent and isn't using manipulative tactics to make people buy it, I see nothing wrong with it. I may think it's a bad deal but if other people want to buy it, that's their business.

As for the actual topic post itself, yeah, tipping game devs is a hilariously stupid idea. I was just defending the idea of DLC, since it's not rotten, at its core. It can be done in rotten ways, but that tends to not be super common, and these games tend to get rightfully called out, when they do.

Granted, I'm also a bit biased, since DLC has extended the life of fighting games dramatically. In the past, if you wanted new characters, they just released a new full price version of the same game. Meanwhile, today, there got to be an entire 8 years between Tekken 7 and Tekken 8, because they added more and more new content to Tekken 7 and kept supporting it for years and years. I didn't need to buy Tekken 7, Super Tekken 7, Tekken 7 Champion's Edition, Super Tekken 7 Turbo, Super Tekken 7 Turbo: The New Challengers, etc. and so on. I just got to pick and choose which characters I wanted for the game I already owned.

No, what was scummy as fuck was the previous system of releasing a full priced game, adding four new fighters, and releasing an entirely new full priced game. What we currently have is much, much better. Why would you apparently want to return to that over being able to add them via DLC? Why would we want to return to fifty versions of Street Fighter 2, over just being able to choose to buy new fighters individually? Unless you're going to say new characters simply... Shouldn't be added at all, and people should just have to wait 3-4 years until the next game comes out?

EDIT: And before you say it, no, "Just add new characters and support the game for five years entirely for free" is not an option, because that's literally saying the devs should do work for you for free.
You really don't get it. It is their business model to stagger completing projects with when they are released. They aren't postponing releasing content out of necessity. Releasing them late is the plan. They have the same amount of time to work regardless if they choose to milk more money from older games instead of working on the next game. The amount of content they can make is the same; they just found a way to scam people.
